I Want A Horned Toad

No silly not a real one. I want a licence plate for my truck with a horney toad on it. That's what we call them here in south Texas. Here in Texas we can get specialized licence plates with all kinds of things on them. I've been admiring this certain one for quite sometime. My little ford ranger is beige or tan and this little guy would look so nice on it. Well I got brave when I went to pay my county taxes today. In fact I got so brave I forgot my taxes reciept. I ask the young lady behind the counter what it intailed to get this horney toad licence plate. I did remind myself to pronounce it HORNED TOAD not horney toad. She was so glad to tell me all about it. It just cost $30.00 more a year added to the usual fee. Hummm I'm thinking don't they know I'm a widow on a fixed income? Don't they know I don't have a sugar daddy? Don't they know I want a horney toad on my little truck? You say ask John? Are you kidding? Spending money on such as this is pure stupidity to him. Several years back he did bring me a baby horney toad. Oh no I said, we have to take it back to where you found it. It's too little, it needs it's mama. We took it back. We haven't seen a horned toad in this county for years now. Do you have them in other states and if you do are there still some around?

I'm sure down here in wild life USA we have horney(d) toads, tho I have not seen one. My license plate has a Roseate Spoonbill, he/she lives in the Everglades (Pink) like a flamingo, but a spoonbill like a platypus...(ugly bird) ..closest thing I could get to a pink flamingo!

Thank goodness I've never seen one. Just buy yourself the license plate for an early Christmas present :).....

Nope, we don't have them here in Florida that I've ever seen anyway. Isn't that a ridclous price for a special plate? It's even more expensive here!

I thought I saw one in the Arizona desert, because it reminded me of the Iguanas in GITMO. Anyway the Iguana looks sorta like a giant horney toad.
Florida has so many plates I don't see how they keep up with them.

NOTE: I axed Sherry and she said yes we talked all night, once we made up! hahah!

The last time I saw a horny toad was about ten years ago in Decatur.
I wonder if its because people have killed all of the ants? They were all over the place in the summers when I was a kid. They were easy to catch and fun to play with and let go. Horny toads and those sticker plants we called goatheads. Ouch! when my brother and I bickered my mother would send us out to the back yard to dig those up. After we grew up my dad just sprayed the goatheads and they were eno more.

Paula the only thing I see are squirrels and birds. I did kill a baby snake the other about 10 inches long. They told me the mother was some where around. Now I got to worry that she is waiting for me to get revenge. I did see a baby frog, but now I have to look out for a mad mother snake.

Can't say I've ever seen a Horney Toad here Paula. We do see camillion lizards during the summer. I've seen them on Animal Planet or Discovery. Does that count?

I have never seen one in Kentucky or Indiana. And if they were here, Eler Beth would have located one by now! They are rather cute, aren't they? I think you should get one for your truck even if it is an extra $30.00.

Paula you were right in assuming you had
joined a bunch of nuts. I might be the head
nut, but the rest are not far behind.
You write a neat Entry.

Where I grew up in Utah we had horey toads and we called 'em that. I used to be told that I'd get warts if I touched one. Never got a wart though and I touched plented of horned toads. Tried to take a pail of them home from a fishing trip once - they all squashed each other in the pail, or died from lack of oxygen. At any rate, not a single one made it home still brathing.
