I Hate Cactus Thorns

The flowers are pretty and the cows like the pear apples and even the leaves if someone burns the stickers off. We've done that in the past but we aren't able anymore. Its a hot hard job. I think the little tiny light stickers or thorns are worse then the big mean pointy ones because when John gets them in his body its me who is elected to get my glasses, a magnafying glass, a good light and track them down and pull them out with the tweezers. John had one more wire he wanted to straighten out where the truck went through the fence. He had to go on the other man's property between the barbed wires and that isn't an easy feat for us older people. The truck had scattered the cactus in all directions but there was still enough in the fence line so John hacked what he could with his hammer and wham he fell into a rat hole. Big rats like to build their nest in cactus up against fences and then that makes rattlesnakes like to go into the cactus after the snakes. Thank goodness there wasn't a snake in this plant. When John's foot stepped down into the rat hole he kind of went down to the ground on one knee and got the tiny light cactus thorns in his jeans and into his knee so when we got home the operation began. Now to wash the jeans and hope all the thorns wash out which they usually do. Hope your holiday wasn't a stickery one. God Bless our troops.

I had to come back here to say something I forgot. Probably not important but to me it is. Yesterday afternoon we saw a small herd of deer just when I've complained we never see any anymore. We scared them up so they ran. I think they were waiting until nearer to dark to go to the tank to drink. Today we saw the biggest fattest quail. We do see them from time to time and I might add we don't kill anything off this place. One thing John doesn't have the hunting rights. The landlords keep those for thier families and another we aren't into hunting as we age.

Paula you have got to have the most interesting life. Now you say you have rats that are big enough to make holes that you can step in and it sounds deep.OK, you have just convinced me I would never want to live in your part of Texas, then I saw that cactus and it is beautiful but just looks like it would really hurt if you accidently even put your finger on a thorn very lightly it would hurt. Another thing it is HOT there. We had storms, some areas grapefruit size hail. It was windy, big time.

Yes. I have bad memories of getting stuck by these things as a kid.

We have white tail deer around here and I never tire of seeing them. They are beautiful. We have quail too. Steer clear of the stickers..lol.

My grandma had cactus plants in her yard that she planted. My cousin and I were playing outside barefoot as kids and stepped all in them. Talk about a job for our parents and ow!

Poor John
