We found these and more in the dry creek bed on the ranch. They look different then the toadstools we grew up seeing. I don't know the difference in mushrooms and toadstools. I only in the last few years learned to like to eat mushrooms in restaurants. John still won't eat them, he picks them out and puts them on my plate.
i don't eat mushrooms either. :) fungi to me. :)
ReplyDeleteI love mushrooms. But I never would eat ones randomly picked because unless you know your mushrooms they can be poisonous.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what they are but I bet they'd be damn good on a pizza!!
ReplyDeleteA mushroom by any other name...
ReplyDeletewould be equally yucky. JMHO
I too like mushrooms (learned that late in life too). But I would be dead if I picked mushrooms. The girls up in Wisconsin amaze me knowing them all. Mel even raises them.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I like it when someone picks pickles, onions, mushrooms out of their food and puts it on my plate. (smile)
PS;
ReplyDeleteSeldom does anyone pick the T-bone steak out and put it on my plate and keep the potato, though!(SMILE)
Interesting, Paula. I eat mushrooms, but they are not my favorite food.
ReplyDeleteI cannot tell mushrooms and toadstools apart either, so I'm not daring to pick any in the forest. But I do like to eat mushrooms :)
ReplyDeleteGood thing John puts them on your plate so they are not going to waste ;)
Have an amazing weekend, Paula!
Mushrooms are one of my favorite things to eat but the only wild ones I have ever eaten are coral mushrooms that someone else (who knew what they were doing)picked (and that was about 30 years ago). I doubt now that I would eat them just because I've grown rather paranoid in my old age (apparently not all varieties of coral mushrooms are edible)
ReplyDeleteDon't like mushrooms to eat, so I would definitely not be the one to determine whether it's a mushroom or a toadstool.
ReplyDeleteI love (edible) mushrooms. lol There is really no difference between toadstools and mushrooms -- technically they are two names that apply to different varieties of fungi. But toadstool has come to mean the poisonous kind and mushroom has come to mean the edible kind. I can tell the difference with some when I see them in the woods, but there are still some I'm not sure of. I used to date a guy whose grandmother was almost full-blooded Cherokee. She would pick big, edible mushroom with wide, flat caps, slice them thin, soak them in salt water, bread them, and fry them.
