Just a country girl kicking around the dirt roads taking pictures of trees, gates, animals. cactus, and anything else that strikes my un-fancy mind. You are welcome to take a look and come back if you like.

Night Time Trip To The Ranch
Wow! All settled in for the night. John asleep and me on the computer. The Sheriff's department messed all that up calling to say some of John's cows are out east of Charlotte. You think they meant Charlotte, North Carolina? No I know they meant Texas. Find my shoes, get a flashlight, get the keys to the truck. Find the Sheriff's department telephone number. John is ranting it can't be my cows they aren't hungry. I burned pear for them this morning. I was in the middle of printing something and couldn't get the printer to turn off. Geeze Louise. I say I'm driving. I don't know who's driving at night makes me more nervous. Take off on a wing and a prayer driving slowly on the shoulder when we get even with the ranch. Never did find any cows out. John says wanna go to the Dollar Store? A new one just opened in his little home town. Yep that's all I need to go shopping and buy something I probably don't need. So we head back searching the side of the farm to market road as we go. Still no cows that we could see. Someone probably put them in. The Sheriff's Department will put them in the property the cows are closest to and they don't give a flip who don't like it. John will have to check his cattle tomorrow to see if they are all home and then check the fences along the road. I tell him you are just going to have to sell the cows and give up we're too old to have to jump out of our jammies to search the road ways. Well he says I want to ranch two more years.

lol....sounds like my husband....he loves the Dollar Store!!! He'll take any reason to go there. Wish we lived close....Hubby and I would go out and check the cattle for you! Next time, just keep your jammies on....the cows won't care how you're dressed!
Ranching and Farming is 24/7 and it's hard to give it up! But I also know what a pain in the behind cows can be...We had a Opossum in the chickens pen tonight, luckily it wasn't in the coop. But we were out there at 10pm with flash lights in hand handling that situation. I hope in the morning John's cows were not the culprits and are happily chewing their cud inside the right fence :)
Two years is a long time. But I'm sure you'll handle it.
Well, Charlotte, NC was the first I thought.
I had a horse, in my younger years, stabled a mile or so away. We used to get phoned quite a few times of him getting out of the fence.
Well, at least you could hop in the truck and DRIVE to search for the cows. Back when...it was horseback. Or something. LOL
Ranching for two more years...I agree with Taryterre...that's a long time.
Hope that your cows are safe ---- at home!!
Sounds like this was quite a middle-of-the-night adventure. I hope they are safe!!
that's distressing. i don't think i'd sleep well, wondering if any cows were still out, in the wrong pasture, etc.
I dread the time when I have to give up my handful of cows.
Well I love the Dollar Store any time of day - I can always spend a dollar or two! Did you find the cows? sandie
My kinda man, Just two more years!!!! (SMILE)
Cows out near Charlotte, I will call my son and have him look, up in NC. hahahahahah
Yeah, I can imagine calls like that can mess up an evening. Funny thing about the printer, when you are in a hurry they AIN'T.
At least no cows were hit apparently.
Love the profile of Susie, the independent one. (smile)
What an annoying thing to have to go through in the middle of the night! I hope all the cows are accounted for.
I hate driving at night. And searching for cows would make it even worse.
I hope it wasn't his cattle, or if it was, that they were put back in his own pasture!
I never ranched, but Dad used to farm and we had a lot of chickens. My job was to throw the chicken feed. That's just about the time that I decided that I was never going to walk barefoot again.

It probably did not help having to wake John up, because if he's anything like my husband it is never easy...lol. Hope you got some good rest.
