Wanna Shake That Little Imp
The little imp being a calf. Several days ago we found one of the cows down with a hurt leg. First thought was snake bite but on better observation it wasn't. She can get up but can't walk too far at one time. She must have stepped in a hole. Doesn't seem to be broken, just sore and painful. John has been hauling water and feed to her and bought some horse medicine to spray or rub on the sore area but she doesn't take too kindly to that. When he went back out to the ranch he found she had made it to the creek bed and was between two muddy areas so he figured he needed to get her to the pens to better take care of her and know where she is each day. Her calf had left with the herd but we knew Mama would be bawling for the calf and it for her. We found the little imp (calf) late yesterday and tried to drive it up to the pens but it wouldn't go. We figured by this morning it would be hungry and more eager to cooperate. When we got there this morning the Mama was lowing in the pens and the baby was on the outside looking like it was thinking now how am I going to get over that fence to get some breakfast. The little bull calf was agreeable to going into the pens and was he glad to see Mama with a bag full of milk for him. While John was doing other chores I spent some quality time with my cottontail rabbits. There is a whole family of them living between the farm house and the pens. Put pellets out in two places then talked baby talk to them for a while. They didn't eat but they didn't hide either. We're having some nice cool mornings and enjoying it while we can.

I'm glad the calf is reunited with Mama. You have a wonderful assortment of animals to keep you busy. All I have are the cats & kittens and they are seriously driving me crazy.
glad you got the calf back with its momma. i hope she can heal, now. :)
Yep, they go find Mom is they get hungry enough. I hope the Mom heals quickly!
I love working with cows and calves. I also love how you take whatever Texas puts in front of you and enjoy it. Every day is an adventure!
Wow, wild rabbits that will let you watch them. I'm impressed. Glad baby finally came to mama.
I do enjoy what I read here and learn that my education does not stop. nature is an amazing thing and I love your reports.
Also I think you have a little Dr. Dolittle in your veins. You talk to the animals, and I am beginning to believe they even understand.
The cottontail bunnies sound so sweet. Glad you got to feed them.
Made me snicker a bit and reminded me of an episode we had once, when we were raising rabbits.
One time a couple bunnies got out of the hutch and were running about. My whoa-man squatted down and (in her best baby talk voice) said, "come here little baby bunnies." Funny thing is, it worked!
We used to have a lot of swamp rabbits around back in the day. I always liked them. Don't see too much of them any more.
