Cows Can Be Fickle

Yes cows can be very fickle. During the spring and summer when the grass was green from plenty of rain they couldn't give us the time of day. This is an old picture. The grass is brown, dry, and ugly now so they notice us and come at the honk of a pick-up horn. Yesterday morning we went to the Feed Pen to buy some molassas and salt and meal. When we took it out to the cows we had to go hunt for them and drive down the lane honking the horn. They almost beat us to the pens. Soon John will be buying the liquid kind and filling the feeders with the wheels where the cows learn to lick the wheels and they go down in the molassas and bring it up with each lick. They catch on fast. I liked it when he fed cubes in the cold but they are too expensive. The one tub of molassas and a bag of salt and meal cost $88.00 but that won't last long. I would drive the pick-up and John sat on the tail gate empying the bag in a trail so all could have a chance to eat some without hooking each other with their horns. Yes some cows have horns. I sent a picture of Shelly Marie to two friends. One thought she was a bull because she has horns and one thought she is a longhorn. Sorry I know I've said all this before but since John and I haven't had much of an agrarian life lately I just wanted to post something.

Nice picture :) Yep, our grass is done here too. Not so tasty as it was says everyone. Now they look for the handout more and more each day. Expensive these days to feed the critters. Kelly
