Just a country girl kicking around the dirt roads taking pictures of trees, gates, animals. cactus, and anything else that strikes my un-fancy mind. You are welcome to take a look and come back if you like.

On Being Frugal
I awoke early this morning and circled all the garage sales and underlined the addresses in the paper of streets I was familiar with. Then I laid out my orange longhorn t-shirt and clean jeans along with my orange crocs with the longhorn decorations. That means I'm a longhorn football fan. You'll do anything for your grandkids. My oldest granddaughter is a senior at Texas University and the youngest will be a freshman there next year so I have to show my support this weekend by wearing the colors. Then I went back to bed and went sound asleep, not waking again until eight o'clock. The garage sales here start at eight and are over by about two. So by the time I was dressed and we were on the road well the good things would have been sold already. You know those serious early bird garage sale shoppers. So we started for two sales on one street. Kill two birds with one stone as the saying goes. We drive by reallll slow. I'm sure the sellers were saying why doesn't those ole' white toppers (wt's for Martha) stop. Just racks of clothing and we have plenty of those. John wants a leather recliner or naugahide what ever. He thinks he has become allergic to his old one but a new one cost too much for a tight, whoops I mean frugal person. Same things at number two garage sale. So we head for Fig street in the next town over. Palm, Pecan, Hackberry, its the next street John. Oh sorry thats Orange. Well it has to be the next one, but no thats Magnolia. Okay we're running out of trees here. The last one is Fig street. At one address we couldn't even spot anything for sale and the next one well by now we're getting out of the mood. They are looking at us and we are looking at them and we just cruise on by. Oh look John there is the house where you bought your pretty leather sofa. Yeah he said she moved out here to shack-up with that mechanic and was selling her furniture. I said she may wish she had her pretty sofa back. We headed on toward home and as we passed Chile Bandera I told John to pull into their drive-in so I can buy us a potato and egg taco. I'll spring this time since I still have my garage sale money in my pocket.

You have such a unique way of telling things. I love it!
Do they still use the term shacking up? we use to call it slumming! lol!
my car stalls out in front of yard sales, lol. that is why my job at a salvation army thrift store can be really dangerous. i see a million things i either "need" or "want" every day i work. i have learned to stay away on days i am off work.
sorry the day didn't pan out the way you wanted.
blessings,
regina
Sorry to hear the garage saling didn't go as well as you hoped! Perhaps next weekend!
I am always amazed at how early people show up at yard/garage sales. A friend had one and she had people there way before she was even ready to start!
Doug always slows down and peeps too - he says "look for bikes" and I do..the people do stare at us.
What a trip! First I've heard "shacking up" in years :)...alice
I hit a few garage sales this morning. I scored some good stuff. I have not been to to many garage sales this year, so I am happy it is cooling down, and now I can go
Kelli
My kind of person, but we did not make one yard sale today. Since we live in a motor home and as a rule (but not always) when something comes in something must go out. We usually look for books.
Take care, I enjoyed the entry.
I prefer White caps, like in the waves.

I'm never out of the house early enough for the garage sales - too busy playing on my computer on Saturday mornings! :-)
I always check out garage sales from the street, but I feel bad if I don't at least stop and look. Especially if the people are looking at me. I'd do anything for my grandkids too! But you already knew that! rose
Too cute Paula. GS sound like some I have seen too often. lol Hope you are feeling better and have a great Sunday. Janie
well you have one thing in your favor...John will go to a yard sale with you...my hubby only takes the yard sale as an opportunity to get away with speeding!!!! God Bless...hugs..Ora
Well, you tried. You should have been here on my street last weekend. 10 miles of yard sales for several days. I think now it's "living together" and is somehow more respectable than "shacking up". Go figure.
Hugs, Joyce
I get it! the secret to saving money at garage sales is to sleep through them (((lol, lol)))
Karen
I love yard sales and can't go to them since I work on Sat...I keep saying I'm gonna take a day off...but heck I just took three weeks off sick so I can't afford it now! lol
Hope yall get to go again and find good stuff!
love ya,
carlene
They start around 6AM here.

Love browsing yard sales. Maybe next weekend yall will find that chair. :)
I love going to garage sales... haven't been to one though in a long time. It's been such a busy year. My MIL goes to them a lot and gets things for the grandchildren which is always such a blessing. Hugs,
Lisa
LOL I had a chuckle as you were driving through streets named with trees and said you were running out of trees. LOL. Hope you got some great deals. I look forward to some garage sale shopping in the future. I haven't had much time with moving from FL to KY we are still just feeling settled in. I like going to second hand shops too. Frugal is the way to be these days! Love that you are wearing the colors for your granddaughter's school/college.
