Remembering Mel on Columbus Day

Tomorrow Columbus Day would have been Mel's birthday. Mel is my deceased husband. His parents told me when he was born they didn't agree on a name so the doctor signed Columbus L---- on his birth certificate. They had to go to the court house and get his name changed when they had come to an agreement on the name Mel. Mel was a commercial refrigeration mechanic by trade, served his stint proudly in the U. S. army and was a good family man.

There's nothing that takes the place of a good husband. Rest in peace, Mel.

Paula, loved the last poem. Liked the picture of 'The Soldier'. You remind us who have not lost someone that close yet, of how fortunate we are.
I am reminded daily of what an attorney told my dad. Dad went in and said 'I would like to make out a will in case I die.' The attorney said,"let's get something straight Reverand, it is not incase you die, but when." Dad never got over that, I don't guess I ever will. You do good.

I had trouble with my kids' birth certificates. One father wanted a little 'Ronnie' and I did not think he deserved it, so it was left blank and I had to fill in later. I thought my daughter could be named King, but found out she had have my legal name which was Shurtz, and he was not the father! I received a call from him saying his present wife was indignant, so I had to go to court and change my name officially back to King, so she was King for 4 years when her dad showed up and insisted on changing it to Hitt after he insisted on marrying me without being divorced. I had to keep illegal legal name Hitt all these ears to match my kids' last name! Gerry
