The Stroke - Segment One

A friend and I were reunited a few years ago after not seeing or talking for several years. We weren't angry or anything like that it was just circumstances that took her to a different part of town and a different life. Recently she accused me of living the cushey life down here. Maybe this will be boring but for myself I want to relive my life in an un-cushey time. To remind me I've paid my dues, did what any wife and mother would do etc. and now I can relax a little. One Sunday our life as we knew it came to a screeching halt. It was pouring down rain so we drove up the street to a housewarming even though it was close enough to walk. We left the housewarming early as we were to drive to the north side of San Antonio to a golden wedding anniversary party for relatives of Mel's. First we stopped by our house to freshen up. It was still pouring down rain. As we pulled up to the house (our house was old and there was no attached garage) Mel turned the engine off and put his head down on the steering wheel. He said I feel so odd. I said let me help you into the house. He said no I can't move, you can't help me. I'm going to call an ambulance. Most times he would have said no I'll be okay, let me rest a minute. He didn't answer me this time so I ran in the pouring rain to the house and called for an ambulance and told them we were in the car and I couldn't get my husband out. They arrived in a short time. One man came to the car and the other ran in the house not having the message clear. What a scary time. They loaded him into the ambulance and told me I could ride in the front. I said I will drive my car to the hospital halfway thinking he would be okay and I would bring him home in a while. Yet knowing this is serious, he might die but not wanting to know or think that. Our doctor had recently passed away so we stayed with the one who moved into his office not knowing him too well. Thinking if he was in Dr. B's office he had to be good. To make a long portion of this short Mel was in the hospital a week diagnosed and treated as an inner ear infection. Mel couldn't talk clearly, he could not reach over to pick up a glass and it took a person on each side of him for him to walk. To be continued.

This scares me Paula, doesn’t sound like any inner ear infection that I have had. I will be waiting for the next part. Take care, jean

Oh, how awful! How surreal it must of all seemed in the pouring rain.

Oh Paula, It is amazing how a person either jealous or NOT understanding, can quickly judge another. Everyone in this life pays dues, just some know how to make the payments without bankrupting their lives. AND then there are others who are just really fortunate. Now come on with the rest of the story, PAUL.

You shouldn't have to justify having already paid your dues and now able to relax a little.
As always, you are such a great story teller and have us wanting to know the rest of the story!
