In my hometown growing up Armistice Day was celebrated each year on November 11 th. There was a parade with veterans that were able to march, military bands from San Antonio, and each school class worked for weeks on their float. This float was made of kleenex flowers. It takes quite a few nights to make this many flowers but everyone pitched in. Our history teacher was very excited about the United Nations so suggested that theme. Someone cut out that emblem with a saw and the boys in our class painted it. I'm the girl front left with two classmates. Somewhere along the way Armistice Day was changed to Veteran's Day but my hometown kept on with tradition. Now they just call it Homecoming which is kind of sad. I just wanted to say "thank you" to all the men and women who have served our great country.

You look great. I don't think we see as many veterans day parades as we use to.... or at least around here.

We still have Veterans Day parade....this morning downtown. I was born Nov 11 and had 3 older brothers that told me the parade was for me, banks and post office were closed in honor of my birthday. I was devastated when Sheila Cooper told me in the 3nd grade that it wasn't all about me.hehehe
Younger people don't know what Armistice day is, but if I say Veterans Day they know.
I think the days of the real Veteran's Parades are gone, except perhaps in the very large cities. You and your friends (and the float) look great. Your dresses are lovely!
LOVE the picture! When we lived in San Antonio the school had a "float" parade for the kids. They each made their own float out of kleenex boxes or a box similar in size. The younger kids would do this and then pull them behind them in parade like fashion for all the school to watch. It was so much fun and the kids loved it.
Nice float. I'll put up a pic someday of a float my first hubby and I made out of Keenex and chicken wire for me and my little cousin to ride on. Don't remember the occasion but we got third place. :)........
Does anyone have Veteran's Day parades anymore? I don't think so. Enjoy your hump day tomorrow.
so sad they changed the emphasis of the parade to homecoming; an equally good thing to celebrate, but also good to honor our veterans and those who serve in our military
cute float; I remember making Kleenex flowers to decorate cars of people who got married; great picture and memories I'm sure

Great picture of you all on the float. We used to build floats and put chicken wire around it in different shapes then pull colored kleenex through the holes to cover the whole thing. I didn't put the wire on LOL but the boys in school did then everyone had a hand at pulling kleenex through the holes.
I have been playing catch-up with your blog. Great picture of your g-daughter and her horse. I always love to hear your renter stories. I hope John gets whoever was doing that shooting. Hugs, Helen
You are looking good on the float. We have
Veterans Day Parade in Charlotte, Gastonia, and most of the Cities in NC. Students even
even get to take the day off. Resturants
serve them free. They deserved everything we
do for them. GOD LOVE THEM.
