The Red Crown

John had already had supper with his daughter after taking her to a doctor appointment. When I drove him for an errand we passed a new little cafe named The Red Crown. Actually it isn't new its been there about two years but I just haven't been there. I told him we should stop there sometime to see if they have chicken salad sandwiches. He said well why don't you get you one. I took him home and drove back around and drove into the exit. No sweat they had no business. Its on a busy corner, busy for this town and its in an old house. They keep a Christmas tree decorated all in red up year round in the window. When I walked in the door it was like I was walking into someone's home. Very very quiet and very pretty. Furniture like in a home but with a cozy little table with two chairs sitting here and there. I felt I needed to ring a door bell or yell anyone home? I moved quietly through the rooms thinking it did say "open" on the front door, didn't it? I came through a door and saw a cash register and counter with a young man standing behind it. May I order a chicken salad sandwich to go. He said we don't have that but we have a good grilled chicken sandwich. All the time we're kind of staring at each other sizing each other up. It hits me, I knew this young man when he was a little boy. He was pudgy with a little baby fat and mean as all get out. When he became a teenager and learned to drive he was hell on wheels. Here he was all grown up, tall, slim, dressed neatly and very manerly. I ask about his older brother and he said he hadn't talked to him in a while. He said some just never learn. His brother had been into all kinds of trouble. I waited while he made my sandwich, paid him and then I told him he had turned out to be a nice looking young man. He thanked me and said thats what all those spankings will do for you.

That was a great read hon. I think it says something that his parents cared enough to try to get through to him. Sounds like it worked. (Hugs)Indigo

You beat all, The place you described is the type of place we try to find. I hope the sandwich was good. I try to make notes, but forget where I logged them. We never know where we will be, I have a few places listed as 'must try' or 'must see'. WE really do love that area of the country and WILL be back sometime. I want to go all the way back down to the Brownsville area and ride the border once more before we call it quits.
Amazing how a youngster can surprise you growing up!

PS I once sat down and wrote a prediction for each of our boys, they turned out just the opposite! Impossible to predict Life.

It's neat to watch how someone turns out isn't it? Most of my little cousins are over 18 and living on their own, it's odd seeing them as adults now. *M*
