Just a country girl kicking around the dirt roads taking pictures of trees, gates, animals. cactus, and anything else that strikes my un-fancy mind. You are welcome to take a look and come back if you like.

The Answer Is----
Ta Daaaa--- my daughter bought tamale making classes for her husband. They are both good cooks so they will probably enjoy it but I am anxious to see if they ever make them on their own. Reminds me of when my mama helped our neighbor Mrs. Fuller make them. Mrs. Fuller grew up in the country with mexican neighbors. She was in and out of their houses all time so she learned to speak Spanish or more like Tex-Mex and she learned to make tamales. In the 50's most people we knew didn't have air conditioning or even a fan. I wrote here once before how Mrs. Fuller always kept her windows closed so she was ready to go when her husband took the car out. She didn't want to be left home. Anyway her house was hotttt. Making those tamales was a hot job and a lot of mess to clean up afterwards but they sure were good to eat.

I never did like them but my mother loved them. :) Hope your week has been good. Janie
My hubby used to eat the kind in the can years ago. I'm sure they are many times better made fresh. Have a great day, Sheila
Having to experiment, I actually made a huge batch of tamales from start to finish & it took me all day but they were so good. Once was enough!! Hope they enjoy making them & maybe they will make some for you & John :)....
A tamale class. I hope he learns how to make
them. I believe I will pass. I don't like to
stay in my kitchen that long. All those
pots and pans and utensils make me nervous. I get out just as soon I get my coffee. I need a sign "Warning I am going into an unknown area".

When we were living on the westside in an area 90% Mexican my daughter decided we should make tamales, so she got play by play instructions from her Mexican friends who suggested we use turkey, which we cooked and real masa which my daughter went to a special store and bought, and of course corn husks, etc, and we cooked the tamales all day long! They were good and there were tons of them, but I said never again and bought them from Mexican ladies who cooked them every few days it seemed to me to sell. And that's my tamale making story.
The only tamales I know are the ones made by Mike & Ike..the gelly like candies.
I have never eat one of those. Good luck on him learning how to make them. Helen
About two months ago I bought some (ugh) canned tamales for emergency lunches. Heated up a couple of cans in a pinch one night and Ernie liked them, so I replacedd the two cans. A few days later I notice a partially used can in the fridge. Asked Ernie if he nuked them and how he liked them. "No" he says, "I ate them from the can.... the last one tasted better when I took the paper off". I'll bet it did!
My boyfriend's aunt makes the best tomales that I have ever had!
I had a feeling that was what it was. My daughter's mother in law makes them every Christmas. I am going to try to learn to make tortillas.
Okay, I could never guess and didn't. I love taco's, burrietos, not crazy about the tamales i got in Biloxi, Miss. so I never tried them again. Next time we are in Tex-Mex country I gotta try them, now that I hear all the bragging how good they are.
It is sleeting here and it is thundering and lightening. Now snow is starting to fall. Strange weather. Soggy and wet rain for two days straight. Drought there and California. Strange.
