It Isn't Easy Being A Wanna Be Cowgirl

This picture is across the street from the end our street. It is a grain tank and an old building of some kind. Our area used to be a farm. They sold off and built houses on one side and the other side is still like a farm or ranch. When we moved here they had cattle in there but it isn't used now and I'm thinking someday when the economy picks up they will build houses on that side. There was a fire in one of these building early this morning but the firemen got there quickly. I've seen kids go in there on their way to school. I'm thinking they stop there to smoke. Well John has been having a conversation with himself for days. It goes something like this. I need to buy five or ten more cows. Then he will say its dry I don't need anymore cows to feed in this dry weather. He went to the cattle auction, when he came home I ask did you buy cows? Yes three cows, a calf, and a heifer ready to be bred. Got 'em for a good price but now I can't find Jack the cowboy to haul 'em. Will you go with me to get the pens ready? He likes to leave cows new to the place in the pens for a few days until they get located (use to their new home) so I slapped a pain patch on my butt and away we went. He already had a large bale of hay in the pens so he knew he was likely to buy something. He had to put a hay ring over it to keep the cows from tromping and peeing on their hay, put some water in the trough, make sure all the gates were closed. Then we looked for the cowboy at his coffee drinking place. He wasn't there.Jack is always there. He didn't answer his phone. John was as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof. He doesn't like to leave his cattle at the auction barn too long. He was whistling under his breath. That means he is nervous so I have to do a lot of side seat driving. Watch that truck up there its slowing down, watch that car up there its going to turn. Turns out Jack was home sick but he said he will haul the cows in the morning.

Don't you love it when the men have conversations with themselves? You ask them, "What did you say?" and they say, "Oh, nothing; I was just thinking out loud."

You make me home sick for my childhood days on our farm in WI, where we raised beef, hogs, grain and corn! How close are you all to the border with Mexico? Beware..

It isn't easy being a man, Can't you see? It was necessary to buy a couple cows because there was hay in the pens for them.
Ain't nothing wrong with talking to yourself, as long as you understand what is being said.
Good entry.
Jack

I was beginning to worry about what John was going to do if Jack had taken a powder to some other location, but am glad to find out he has been contacted so John can rest easy. My dad, the rancher, used to go to auctions just for entertainment. And I loved hearing the auctioneers. Guess he did, too.

SLAPPED A PAIN PATCH ON MY BUTT??? LOLLLL! You are cracking me up woman! I know what he was feeling. When I buy birds at the poultry show out in the sale barn I have to snatch up my buy and squirrel them away in a carrier and into the truck. I guess you can't really do that with cows though can you?? LOL..glad yall got it all squared away. Kelly
