My Yucca Plant

Please ignore my ugly little storage shed. I was in such a hurry to get one before they built more houses and fences and hemmed me in to where they wouldn't be able to move one in. I could have bought a little red barn and it would have matched the red brick on the front of my house. Oh well not the first mistake, now my yucca plant the reason for this post. I'm anxious to see what it is going to do this spring. I dug it up at the ranch a few years ago. It was about a foot tall and was in the middle of a gate. It would have been run over and tramppled. The first time it bloomed you would have thought it had given birth to a baby I was so excited. The buds look like a purple pineapple and then they open into this white flower you see here. The next year it had two blooms and last year it didn't have any. Not sure why, maybe the way the rain fall came or didn't come. I never water it because they grow beautifully at the ranch out in the pasture and only get what moisture mother nature gives them. I'll be watching to see what it does this year. It looks a little different now as it has grown way over my head and I had the bottom limbs or leaves trimmed off. It looks nicer this way and is not so dangerous as the points at the end of the leaves are very very sharp.

Hey, Glad you did not get the Little Red Barn. Someone might have thought it was their dog house.
Good entry Paula. Take care and go ahead and be TEXAS. WE like it.

I think your storage shed looks so neat and tidy Paula. As for the Yucca plant I have never grown one outdoors. My cousin had one for yrs in the garden and it never flowered.I told her to prune it one yr and low and behold she said it was full of flowers the following yr.So realy was she just lucky, or was it the pruning, which did the rick,I don't know?
Love them anyway and yours looks so nice in that little bed at the side of your shed.Take Care God Bless Kath xx

I think your little shed is really neat ~ my friend has a hugh big Yucca plant just outside her back door and it blooms every year ~ but you have to be careful passing it as it is very sharp and I swear it grabs you as you pass by :o) ~ Ally x

The storage shed looks just fine and the yucca is really pretty. Did you know that you can just cut off a limb of it and throw it down anywhere you want and it will take root. Just give it time and never have to worry about watering. I have them scattered all around here and yep, you gotta dodge those Spanish daggers :)

It's such a pretty plant and I don't recall I've ever seen one before. I hope you get some blooms this year. Your shed is cute - I like it better than a little red barn, it looks nice.

PAULA,
ONE YEAR AT A 'PIONEER DAY' HERE IN CANON CITY A FARM LADY AND YOUNG DAUGHTER GAVE A WONDERFUL PRESENTATION OF CREATING USEFUL THINGS USING THE YUCCA PLANT.
THE PLANTS ARE VERY PROLIFIC HERE, GROWING MOST EVERYWHERE IF ALLOWED.
EVERY PART OF THE PLANT MAY BE USED. PART OF THE PROCESS IS BOILING IN WATER FOR A TIME.

PIONEERS MADE SO MANY THINGS WITH THE YUCCA PLANT. BROOMS PROBABLY WAS ONE OF THE MOST USED.
IF I WOULD TYPE IN KEYWORD 'YUCCA PLANT PRODUCTS' IT MIGHT HELP TO REMEMBER MORE OF THE PRODUCTS CREATED BY THE PIONEERS.
IT WAS FASCINATING WATCHING THE PRESENTATION YEARS AGO. sam
