New Neighbor

How long does a neighbor have to live in our neighborhood before we stop calling him new neighbor. He has been here since before Thanksgiving. You might say why don't you be friendly and introduce your self? I did encourage John to go over and welcome him to the neighborhood. John did go and they chatted on the front porch for a few minutes. All John knows he is from up north and this is his first time in Texas. When a for sale sign goes up you always kind of wonder if the new neighbors will have mean kids since we don't have fences in this neighborhood or will they have loud parties. We didn't have to worry about this guy. No pets, no kids, just a cute little sports car. We see him come home from work when we are watching The Millionaire. He drives into the garage, closes the doors and blinds and we never catch a glimpse until the next day. The house was advertised as nicely landscaped but I don't think he has noticed. The little red flags where they did the surveying are still across the yard and its been, what going on the third month? Today he had his kitchen window open when we came home. I told John I think new neighbor thinks its summer. It was too cool to me. I wonder what he will think when our hot dry summer does get here. Well I think he is going to be a good neighbor. No mean kids, no barking dogs, no loud parties, no mowing over into my yard the way the old old neighbor did. I do wish he would wave or nod once in a while. Guess you've got to learn to be a small town yokel.

The guy next door is getting a divorce from his wife. Been empty for 6 months. She was living there but have not seen her there ever since Gary thought I was yelling at him. I heard someone yell too. He told us that she had a restaining order against him. Saw him about 3 weeks ago and he waved when he passed us, we were stopping coming out of the drive. Glad he is gone. He set our field on fire 3 times! Had to call the fire department 3 times. Really scary but hope he don't come out and burn again!! He is a nut. lol 2nd nut that we have had that has lived there. Hope your week goes well. Janie

Hi Paula,

Maybe it is a northern thing. I pretty much keep to myself and will just wave to the neighbors if they are out. I made the mistake one time of getting involved in the politics of a neighborhood and let me tell you it was nothing but drama. Also 50 is a heat wave...lol, We just got another foot of snow last night and it's in the 20's again....I long for 50's. I am glad even if your new neighbor is not very social at least he is not a jerk.

Hi Paula...so good to be back...and abut that neighbor...I think it is a "northern" thing...we have nice neighbors on one side...we wave as they come or go...when weather is good we might stand outside talking a bit...friendly...but north folk tend to be "shy" LOL..just back fence type of neighbors...but then again...maybe he is waiting for one of the "tamales" you make??? LOLOL...hugs...Ora in KY

I know you will love your quiet neighbor that is if he stays quiet. They can surprise you. I remember the worst neighbor from hell moved in when I lived on the west side and kept their boombox on day and night and parties until dawn, but one of their partying friends drove his car through their bedroom wall, and the whole family packed up and moved the next day. Ever hear of a neighbor leaving for that reason. Ha.

Paula, I have been in this small town for 28 years now and I am still "not from around here are ya?" It takes several generations to actually be part of some small towns (or maybe you have to be a founding father...lol). Also, northerner's don't wave and holler howdy like southerners do.
Hugs, Joyce
