Just a country girl kicking around the dirt roads taking pictures of trees, gates, animals. cactus, and anything else that strikes my un-fancy mind. You are welcome to take a look and come back if you like.

To Sleep Or Not To Sleep--That Is The Question?
You know we don't know what cold is but right now it is cold to us and sleeping under my blanket is nice. Guess who wanted to get up early and go riding on a country road? Not me, John. I kept hoping he would go away or change his mind but he didn't. He said he wanted to go to Gillette, Texas a little ole cowboy town where he went to a rodeo one time. Neither one of us has the eyes to read a map even with glasses and a magnifing glass. He knew the direction it is and the vicinity so off we go. Me half asleep and dragging my feet. We first went to Poth the little town where we go to buy feed sometime. We went through some other little bergs and on farm land road where the farm land is black and very rich looking. Plowed fields planted or ready for planting. Pretty country, no tall dead weeds like around here. I hadn't even had breakfast and I don't think he had ate anything either so I told him I'll spring for a steak if we can find Shorty's Steakhouse. I know its near one of those towns. They had one here and it closed several years ago. We never did find it and knew we should pass through Pawevilick (sp) before Gillette. I looked up at a sign and we are in Pawevilick. John said where did all the people go? Just a wide spot in the road but good roads. We finally found a sign that pointed to Gillette. In all the miles one car passed us and we didn't meet any cars which is the driving I like. When we came to the town it was like a ghost town. The businesses were old and closed up and the main one the awning on the porch was completely down to the ground. John hesitated at a stop sign too long trying to figure which way to go when a big truck behind us sat down on his horn. We had a good laugh about that trying to figure out if he was out of beer or cigarettes or both. Maybe he knows we're strangers and is saying under his breath to get out. There was a few houses but we didn't see any one outside anywhere. I think John was disappointed he didn't see the rodeo arena. Must have been a fun date or something years ago. Ha. We left there looking for a good place to eat. All we saw in every little town was Mexican food cafes or fast food places which we have plenty of those here. We got back to our town at one o'clock so we ate a steak at Stage Stop. It wasn't even that good. The drive was nice though when I got woke up and it drizzled all the way. I saw some roads I had never been on before.

You guys are so venturous. We don't have any
of those type roads to go riding but we do have a beautiful mountain to take a short ride. I enjoy that. We have the Beaches and mountains near. Glad you finally got what you wanted to eat although it was not up to par. As Frank Sinatra would say "Thats Life".

i like that: steak for breakfeast. that makes the trip worth=while. roberta...
You can always sleep when you are dead. I would have ripped those blankets off the bed and just took them with me!

Lol, I guess people everywhere are in a hurry, even near a ghost town. Wish the steak had been better...Have a nice day, Sheila
I love your tales about the drives, if you were just half awake. It is disappointing when you go back, and things are not the same. I can't remember the poet who wrote, 'you cannot go home again.' something like that.
Now I love to drive those roads where you don't see anyone in front and no one in the mirror. You must be past the Mississippi and this sid of the rockies to see that.
Glad you got to see some roads you have never seen.

Too funny! Gary has other things to do but sure that later on we might be driving down the roads. Sounds like fun to just be in no hurry and look around. Hope you are having a blessed Sunday. Janie
I have the itches to take a drive.... I would just love to go toward the mountains... the Appalachians are to the east of us and then go for a little hike... nothing too strenuous of course... maybe a nice walk for an hour and to capture great photo shots of the family in that beautiful scenery would be nice. You have inspired me!

Hi Paula,
It sounds like a beautiful scenic ride it's a shame the towns where pretty much empty. That is amazing you can drive for so long and see only one car, I would just love that!
