We Got Moisture

Its a start and they keep promising. We dug in the back of the closet for our oldest shoes. Cow patties and mud are yucky on shoes but when we got to the ranch John changed his mind about putting out hay. The cows are not hanging around the hay ring. They are out hustling. They are eating the new tender cactus leaves that doesn't have thorns on them yet. John got out and walked around checking the ground. Sometime I wonder what he is looking at. He said see that little green coming up in the middle of the dead grass? When the cows eat the little green grass they will have to eat some of the dead grass to get to it. Humm okay. The orphan calf was all alone near the pens bawling its head off. Evidently it was asleep when the herd left for the field and when it woke up it was all alone and not liking it. We found the other two calves with the herd kicking and full of vim. We always have these little conversations. We surmised the calves were happy they were able to sneak off without the orphan so it couldn't steal milk from their mamas. Even the wild animals must be getting soft. We didn't see a sign of anything out in the messy weather until we were leaving there was two half grown rabbits in the cattle pens. Haven't seen the squirrel lately. I hate it when people shoot wild animals just to prove they can hit their target. Not that I know that is what happened to it but it could have. The wild hogs had been up to their usual tricks on the back forty. John had to get out and look at the ground to see where he could drive and not fall into a hole. They love that area where nut grass grows and they have to dig to get the nuts. Everything was in order for today. No problems so we headed for home.

Hi Paula,

That poor little orphan cow, did you bring him to the herd so he would not be alone. I love bunnies we have some under our shed I could never imagine hurting them. I hope those wild boars do not do any damage. I hope your computer issue's are fixed. Enjoy your weekend!

You shoulda brought the orphan calf home with you. I guess it got some milk later. Good entry I like the stories of the trips. Hope you guys have some luck with trapping the wild hogs. Hope you get a lot of rain. I know you will need it to make it through the summer better. Take care.

I can come get the orphan and bring it to
my home. It may be lonesome. She thinks
one of the cows is its mother and the nerve of
her leaving it alone. You trips are interesting. Good entry.

I hope the little orphan calf catches up. I think that people that shoot animals for sport should become targets themselves.

I've been meaning to tell you, I like the pic of the pup in the truck!
