Trash Or Treasure

I've come to realize another man's trash is not always another man's treasure. Last night reading a blog about a family getting rid of old furniture reminded me of the scene we have been seeing in our neighborhood. On the main street leading into our housing addition we were seeing a table for sale at the curb of a house we pass often. It wasn't a dining table it was an oblong table like you might see in an office with stacks of papers etc. Now this table was bowed in the middle and the top was peeling as if it had seen some bad weather. It didn't look like there was any life left in it for any kind of use but never the less someone must have thought so as they had a for sale $5.00 on it. I got a chuckle out of that for several weeks then one day the sign had changed to FREE. Still no takers and it sat for several more weeks. I wondered why they didn't just chop it up and fit it into the grabage container and be gone with it. It wasn't my table or my decision. Maybe they were attached to it and really hated to see it go. Now I notice the table is gone and I find myself wondering where did it go?

Hi Paula,
That makes me chuckle as we have a house near the campground we go to that always has stuff outside of it for sale every summer. The stuff is junk, like rusted chairs, ancient bikes with no chains etc. It sits there all summer and they do the same thing every year!

My guess is they finally got rid of it in the trash.

I'm always amazed at those small garage sales that really do display junk. For all the effort it would seem easier if it was so valuable to donate it or trash it. (Hugs)Indigo

Hey, it wasn't so bad. It just fits in the Motor home! hahahahaha! We needed a table! Really I just took the legs. I can usually find something good off of junk. hahaha
Sometimes Sherry isn't happy about the junk I pick up!
I guess it just finally gave up the ghost.
It is funny what some folks value, But it is true one man's trash is another man's treasure (sometimes). I like your stories.

It always amuses me to see what people think their "stuff" is worth. You should put a sign on the table stating if they pay, you will dump it.

I've seen some decent furniture sitting on the curb one day and started to load it up on my truck, the owner was pissed he was not done moving in yet and was on break.

Hello Friend. i know it has been a while. I'm sorry for not keeping in touch that often. things have been crazy in the office lately and starting up at a new church has been a time consuming experience as well. Havent really been in the mood to write also, lol. Just wanted to swing by and say hello. hope all is well, take care.

Hm, you sound more like a country philosopher every day, with your stories designed to bring a smile to the face if not a downright chuckle. Your description of that table reminded me of old swayback plugs (horses) I have seen who had their better day and could be bought to a song for kids to ride. Gerry

I wondered what was in Jack's SUV the other day as he drove in. He probably got that table. I will see if he put it in the basement and let you know.

HI PAULA,
AFTER RETIRING IN 1981 HAD MOVED SOME BELONGINGS FROM TULSA TO CANON CITY colorado. SOME OF THE STUFF WAITING IN THE YARD OF MY NEW HOME may have appeared to be a yard sale.

AN OLD CHEST OF DRAWERS WHICH COST ME 10 DOLLARS YEARS BEFORE HAD ATTRACTED THE EYE OF A PASSERBY WHOM INTRODUCED HIMSELF AS AN ANTIQUE COLLECTOR. HE OFFERED 100 DOLLARS FOR THE CHEST OF DRAWERS WHICH I HAD CONSIDERED ABANDONING IN TULSA.

I DEFINITELY WAS NOT KNOWLIDGIBLE TO THE VALUE OF OLD FURNITURE. ACTING AS IF STUDYING IT OVER SAID I WILL TAKE THE 100 DOLLARS.

HOW ABOUT THAT OLD WOOD BURNING KITCHEN RANGE ? (HAD GIVEN 12 DOLLARS FOR IT 20 YEARS BEFORE AND USED IT IN BACKYARD TO COOK HAMBURGERS ON) THE COLLECTOR SAID 400 DOLLARS FOR THE OLD STOVE. OK, IT IS YOURS. SO UNBELIEVABLE TO ME.

IF THE THINGS WERE WORTH THAT MUCH TO HIM THAT WAS FINE WITH ME. sam
