Awww Baby Duckies

If they had just come by earlier they would have had a puddle to swim in. When John came home from the ranch this morning he saw a mama wild duck (wood duck I think) with her little brood crossing the street going into our neighbors yard. By the time he came in the house and told me and I got my camera they were gone. Couldn't find them anywhere. I didn't get down on my knees to look under my storage shed as I was dressed for an appointment. We got a nice rain this afternoon and it cooled down. There is a good size mud puddle at the end of the street so if Mrs. Duckie and her brood comes back they will have a little water to swim in. That is if she doesn't wait too long as this is probably just a little break for us and much appreciated. Our county, a rancher, and our cattle auction and the owner were on the San Antonio local news today. Telling how the ranchers are having to feed so much it is getting to not be worth their while and many are having to sell out.

Sorry you missed your shot of the ducks.
Sorrier for the folks because fo the drought and heat. Isn't it amazing the difference in the country. This area is complaining that their economy is ruined fr the summer due to allt he rain ans low temps. Today it is 67 and raining.
Take care and hope you get a chance at the ducks, maybe they will find the puddle.

Glad you got some rain and hope the ducks find it. I am old enough to remember as a kid when first one well would go dry, then I would get sent through the pasture with my trusty buckets to another well , watching for the mean bull all the time. Had to save the well where the stock tank was so it would not go dry. We were poor farmers but needed rain as much as a rancher.

Fargo and I encountered a pair of wood ducks during our walks in the spring. I loved them, but since they were swimming in the little creek running through the area Fargo wouldn't have a thing to do with them. Contrary to his genetic heritage, he HATES water. Once Ernie went to a local feed store for something (?) and came home with three ducklings. We dug a hole in the back yard, put in a kiddie pool and the ducks were happy for a long time. It was kind of funny to see them trying to swing and duck under in water only a few inches deep. Ernie gave them away to friends who had acreage out of town. I wonder if they ended up on the dinner table? Paulette

So you got enough rain for a mud puddle...that's a good thing!!!! Wood ducks are gorgeous, one of the prettiest ducks around.

Oh oh, I guess you have got some disheartening results of the drought. I hope a little rain means more rain might be on the way. I am thinking for you, Texas needs rain. I just read where a certain area in Australia has had drastic changes due to drought. We always hope that Mother Nature won't go that far, but I was interested to read what happened in Australia, too much planting in the wet years. We irrigate all summer in Utah but rain has to replenish the water somewhere Gerry
