Busy Neighborhood This Afternoon

We went to the ranch this morning to get the electrical meter reading and make a quick check of the cattle. It was getting hot early but the cows all seemed to be okay. I saw one little squirrel on the tank dam eating something. Probably a mesquite bean. I'm sure he/she would have prefered a nut. The cows are starting to eat the dried mesquite beans. Some of the pear apples are starting to turn a purplish red but as yet they seem to be not ripe enough for the cows to like them. When we got home it seemed a perfect time to take a nap but just as I was completely asleep John awoke me to ask if I wanted to watch something. He said they are going to left a storage shed over the privacy fence in back. So me being the nosy, no curious, no interested person that I am I open the blinds and sat at the table to get a ring side seat. A big truck was backed on John's property and up near the privacy fence with a storage shed on it and not a tiny one either. The truck had a verrrr y large magnet on the back and that is what lifted the shed over the fence. Gosh I didn't know they could do that. Wonder if they ever drop one? A man on the ground had to guide it a little but it worked perfectly. Okay back to my nap. Sleeping good and John comes in to say the city animal control is here. John is going to have to get a job so I can take a nap. He has called them because he thinks a skunk is sleeping in his carport at night. Monday when we left a 5 A.M. he swears a skunk came out of his carport. I did see one in our yard once early in the morning but all the other sightings have been John's. The city brought a trap baited with a can of cat food. They said if you catch one call us and we will bring a large tarp to throw over the trap and it will not spray if it cannot see a human image. Hummm we'll see about that! We'll even see if a skunk is sleeping in his carpost. I haven't smelled anything lately. Well before dark we've caught one neighborhood cat already and released it. Put another can of cat food in and put Susie safely in the garage to spend the night. John gave me orders when I get ready to go to bed to go get in the truck and turn the lights on to see if we've caught the skunk. Doesn't he know that would excite the skunk and it would probably spray everything in sight? No thanks I'll keep my distance.

LOL. I think as long as the skunk isn't stinking things up, I'd live and let live.

I like my skunk friends. only been spray by one what didn't know me. My fault I was in to bid a hurry to let it loose where it could be a big help to me. Oh yeah, I'm practically on a first name basis two who frequent the barn and yard. They can be good neighbors if given the chance.

LOL, this is too funny ~ especially since you aren't sure if there is one there!! I believe I'd keep my distance too. Interesting about the shed and them using a magnet, it's good your vehicle wasn't close it may have taken that along when they pulled out. LOL

PAULA. DURING MY BUS DRIVING DAYS FOR GREYHOUND WOULD TRY TO STRADDLE A DEAD SKUNK ON THE HIGHWAY WITH AN EXCEPTION.

IF A PASSENGER HAD TAKEN OFF SHOES AND THAT FOUL FUNGUS SMELL CAME FORTH WAS THE TIME TO RUN THE BUS WHEELS OVER THE DEAD SKUNK AND HELPED TAKE AWAY THE BAD SMELL OF THOSE FEET.

This story reminds me so much of the time when a skunk kept visiting the cheese factory house where we lived nearly 3 years, and my mother about went nuts because she has a super sense of smell. The skunk even came in their bedroom! I was glad to move away from that house just to leave all the hoopdedo about skunks. My dad took skunks in his stride as he did all wild animals, but my mother took great offense. Gerry
