Cleaning A Path To The Lord's Door

This is the boonie road the church we attend is on. Before my time my hometown was here and when the railroad came through the town moved several miles to the north but that is not what I am writing about. The last several Sundays the sides of this road didn't look like this. Litter up and down. Someone has even dumped a dog two times and people of the church found a home for each one but the litter has remained. Last night I thought this is something I can do. I'm not too good too pick up litter. I guess eventually the county would do it but probably would take a complaint first or several because there are only a house or two down the way. Early this morning I loaded plastic bags, a rake, gloves, but then I thought I'll have to be careful that there isn't a rattlesnake under one of those piles. Also this is a deserted road during the week. I could get robbed or worse. I really don't get scared and borrow trouble but sometime you do have to take responsibility by the horns and run with it. I knew this was not something John was going to be excited about doing. He hardly notices litter but I hit him up to go with me. I promised he wouldn't have to do a thing but sit in the truck and drink something cold. He wanted to say no but I had followed him early this morning hauling two large calves to market all the way from the ranch to the cattle auction. He was using a rickety little trailer and we had to drive slowly all the way. I was afraid he would blow out a tire or the calves would make the little old trailer jack knife. So he said when did you want to go? Don't look a gift horse in the mouth I always say. Right now! It took us longer to drive over there then it did to police the side of that little road. We got two large feed bags full and one leaf bag half full. He helped and we disposed of it in our house garbage can. It looks nice and I wonder if anyone will even notice but I will and I wonder how long it will be before they litter the path to the Lord's door again. I think I will take gloves and a bag every Sunday and stop and pick up small amounts and not let it build up. This can be my mission since I don't sing well or play the piano and wouldn't want to teach a Sunday school class, but I'm not too good to pick up litter.

Oh Paula, what a wonderful thing to do! You deserve an award for getting involved and cleaning up the litter. I bet some will notice ~ I would.

What a nice thing to do. I hope people do take notice and think twice before littering again. Take care, Sheila

Great idea. Someone will notice, but not everyone. That is the kind of thing you take personal pride in. Something YOU have accomplished. That is great. The world would be a better place if we ALL would have a good idea, then follow through on it. Most of us lesser folk think of it but do not follow through. You did great.

pa: I think it is harder for folk to litter a clean road. EAsy to litter a littered one.

When I see lot of litter on the roads it crosses my mind that it is probably the same people who do it all the time. I hate litter on the roads. Good for you picking up all of that. Helen

GOOD FOR YOU PAULA.
THIS WILL HELP YOU IN A GENERAL WAY.

PEOPLE THAT LITTER PROBABLY SEE NO BEAUTY IN FLOWERS.

NO WORTHY GOAL IN LIFE.

THERE ARE TAKERS AND THERE ARE GIVERS.

SOONER OR LATER THE GIVERS WILL HAVE A REWARD. sam

Aaah, it isn't that you aren't "too good" to pick up litter - it's that your "So good" that you do! The road looks lovely. Reminds me of the little Church in N Dak where Ernie's parents went to services. There would usually be abot a dozen in attendance, a big crowd some days. Thanks again for your lovely tale. Paulette

You need to be very proud of yourself Paula That is a really cool road. I just know that you feel good about what you did and more than anything I think someone special was looking over you while you were doing it.

That is wonderful. People think the world is
their dumping grounds. I always wonder what
their house looks like when they don't care
about throwing trash down or out the car window Good deed. You deserve a star on your card.

They'll notice. And most of all, you'll know...and when it starts looking bad you will become protective and start doing it again....my Dad always did that at his church(also his place of employ). He'd go by (it was down the street from us) and see litter and STOP THE CAR to go get it!
