Turtles Take Siestas Too

I guess that is what they were doing. I went out to take the meter reading for John about noon then on down to the tank to feed the turtles. There was not a head sticking up anywhere. It is cooler today and the wind was blowing a little. After I called several times heads started sticking up and then coming toward me slowly. It was around noon so maybe they had already found something to eat and were sleeping it off. Maybe the cooler weather made them feel drowsy. I had never thought about how turtles sleep. Do they sink to the bottom and sleep there? I know they could hear me because they did come up eventually. I need to find a name for the one that stands out in the crowd. The bigger one with the white stripe over it's eye. I know it from the rest and it is always there. I was toying with the idea of the name Lucy. Lucy here in blogs you wouldn't get mad at me if I name it Lucy would you? I like you and I like it. Okay that settles it, Lucy it is. Took some food to Miss Kitty too. She wasn't at her usual old house so after calling a while I saw her frantically trying to climb over the backyard fence of the farm house. She came to eat and then I saw the new renters have some kittens in the back yard. She was with them and I know she is enjoying the company. New renters weren't home but I could see they are already cleaning. I was hoping to meet them but I just locked the gate and left. If you are thinking I have deserted the cows it is more the other way round. They are scattered all over eating the beautiful green grass and don't even pay attention to us or come near the house. They are predicting more rain for the week-end so that would be good to get another about now. We haven't had anything close to a frost yet. They are doing a catherization to John's daughter's heart about now and all his family are there. I'm holding the fort down here. Saw her at the hospital here this morning before they transported her to San Antonio. She still has an obstruction in an artery to her intestines and an infection so that remains to be seen what else will have to be done.

Most of the turtles I've seen sun themselves and sleep along the banks near the water.

I like the name Lucy for the turtle...
