From the 50's

All I;m hearing from the living room is football football football so I decided to see if I could remember any cheers from the 50's. I even remember my school song but I won't bore you with it now.
Two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar all for Somerset stand up and holler.
Rickety rackety russ we're not allowed to cuss, but nevertheless we must confess there's no body better then us.
Awww forgive me we were just a little country school.

VERY GOOD.

I GRADUATED IN 1937.
WE DID'NT HAVE ENOUGH FOR A FOOTBALL TEAM.

BASKETBALL THOUGH WE HAD FIVE AND USED AN EIGHTH GRADE BOY FOR SUB.
OUR TOUNGES WERE HANGING OUT BY GAME'S END.

NO INSIDE GYM. WE PLAYED ON OUTSIDE COURTS AND ALLOWED FOR WIND TO MOVE THE BASKETBALL A LITTLE.
DUST GOT IN OUR EYES TOO.
THAT MUST HAVE BEEN THE OLD DAYS, - NO INSIDE PLUMBING.
OH YES, THE DEPRESSION WAS GOING ON TOO AND NEVERTHELESS WE WERE HAVING FUN.
LOTS OF GOOD MEMORIES.

Yes I'm second from right and Sam we didn't have a gym either. My school has so many buildings now I can't believe it.

Do you still have the cheerleading outfit? Sheila

Sheila the only thing I have kept over the years from the cheerleading uniform is the megaphone off the sweater.

I was into music, chorus and plays. Good memories what I can remember. I know the family
was glad I graduated. I did cut-up in school
Teacher would write on my report card. Shirl
could do better If she would pay more attention
in class and stop talking to the people around her. Oh well I had fun.

Oh Paula, you do bring back memories. The building in the background of your picture is like the gym we had, made of rock. It is still standing, but don't know if it is being used or not. It had classrooms in part of it, where I was in first and second grade.

I was a cheerleader too Paula! Why is it that I can still remember those old cheers but can't remember things from last week?

Thank you for the nice compliment about my cooking. I'll cook for you anytime if you come to Florida :-)

I was a teen in the 70's but my older sister taught me this 50's cheer:

Orange crush, lemon ice
Hit them once, hit them twice.
Hit 'em high, hit 'em low.
Come on Tigers, let's go!

And I remember:

Rah, rah ree, kick 'em in the knee.
Rah, rah rass, kick 'em in the a**.
