When The Walls Close In

we go to the ranch. I have heard soooo much football this week-end and now I hear it again. How can John watch football 24/7 or so it seems to me when there is sunshine, fresh air, and turtles out there? We knew it would be muddy and we knew we couldn't drive just everywhere. If it keeps raining I'm looking for some rubber boots. On the other hand that may bring bad luck. the boots may just sit in the closet for months on end while we pray for rain like last summer. The tank dam was so hard to walk on as the cattle had tromped on it while it was wet and then the sun was bright today. It dried it out just enough to make their tracks very hard to walk on but I made it calling all the time. "Tortugas" "Boys and Girls". Finally a few turtles came up but not many. I don't remember the tank ever overflowing to the extent it did this time. The water went past the fence and far out into the pasture. The old boat the former renter used to play with is now floating in the water again. The tank water has lots of trash in it such as small limbs and leaves. It wasn't long until I heard a faint toot toot from the truck horn so back to town we went and to the TV. The cattle have plenty of water even in the dry creek bed and the grass is still green. We haven't had a frost yet so all is well at the ranch for now except the farm house renters had their big van that could haul their large family repossesed. The man told John it had something wrong with it so they didn't make the payment and the company came to get it. Duh!

Wow !!! The intelligence of some people just slays me. I work hard to get the things I want, so I try to take care of them, even to repairing them when needed. Besides, what does this do to his credit rating??? Oh, well............

Hope you have a wonderful week Paula and one with a little less football - although if it's like it is at my house that won't happen!

I know what you mean by the walls closing in, but I was glad I persuaded Doc us going to Austin would not be a good idea. I know his brain cells are in jeopardy not from alzheimer either, although his judgment may be faulty. We have been working together today, but it was not too bad. I was so relieved I guess.

PAULA, THE CATTLE TRACKS IN THE MUD COULD INDEED MAKE WALKING DIFFICULT. YOU ARE FORTUNATE IT IS NOT BLACK GUMBO MUD SUCH AS IN THE ONION COUNTRY OF TEXAS.

SOUTH OF SHERMAN ARE THE TOWNS OF 'ANNA' AND 'MELISSA'. VERY SMALL PLACES IN THE 1950s THOUGH PROBABLY HAVE HOUSING ADDITIONS NOW.

I BEGAN DRIVING BUSES FOR GREYHOUND IN 1949 AND THROUGH THAT ONION COUNTRY IS BLACK SOIL. DURING ONION HARVEST ALONG ABOUT MAY AND JUNE WERE LOADING AREAS ALONG THE HIGHWAY.
THIS WAS LONG BEFORE INTERSTATE ROADS. TOURISTS OR BUS DRIVERS COULD STOP AT THE 'ONION STANDS' AND BUY 50 POUND SACKS OF NICE ONIONS. PRICE ONE DOLLAR. I BOUGHT BAGS FOR MYSELF AND NEIGHBORS.

NOW MORE ABOUT THE VERY BLACK SOIL. DURING RAIN THE SOIL BECAME 'GUMBO'. STICKY.
TRUCKS LOADED WITH SACKS OF ONIONS PULLED OUT OF THE FIELDS AND ON THE HIGHWAY LAID DOWN TRACKS OF THAT GUMBO FOR SEVERAL YARDS, REMAINING THERE AND WHEN THE HOT SUN CAME OUT AND BAKED THAT GUMBO IT TURNED INTO VERY TUFF CHUNKS, MAKING ROUGH DRIVING.
PEOPLE THAT WALKED IN THE WET GUMBO BECAME INCHES TALLER AS THE GUMBO STUCK TO THE SHOES.

HOW LUCKY FOR YOU PAULA IF YOUR AREA DOES NOT HAVE THAT TYPE SOIL.

Paula you need to tell John the turtles are
calling. I know as much about Football as
Andy Griffin. Our minister told how the turtle
got on the fence and I have got to remember the
story. You may know. I will try to get a copy of his sermon and let you know. John needs to get out of his chair and live it up before we get to old. Lots out there to do before we fold. lol

I have to agree with you. Fresh air and sunshine should be taken advantage of at all times. Hubby listened to a football game yesterday, but that was about it.

We did not watch football. Our game was a night game and I was hoping Joe would not want to watch nit and he did not say a word. He does not care for pro football and then Ron and Kathy came so that pretty well killed the football time. I don't care that much for football either. How is Lucy or Lucifer.???

So now you can go for a boat ride, or the cows can. I don't think the turtles can get in. LOL

You can go into shock with the attitude of some folk. Funny what some folk take as just another day.
Anyway I hope you enjoy the Thanksgiving week's football. hahahaha!
