Sand, Grassburrs, and Gophers

Still have company but I wanted to write about the house we all went to look at that is for sale. The house is beautiful but none of us would want to live in a house stuck in a field of sand and grassburrs sticking onto your shoes and being tracked on to the pretty carpet. Little gopher hills as far as you can see. When we found the place there was a pretty large entrance and the house sat far back from the road. The owners warned us to not drive slow in the sand because we would get stuck for sure so we made it without getting stuck in the deep sand. We walked into a very pretty living room with no furniture. It opened onto the kitchen which had lovely cabinets and she had decorated it with white tile with a bluebonnet tile in a nice country design. She had cookie jar and canisters to match. We went up the stairs to three bedroom and baths. The master had a beautiful king size bed but no matress or springs. There were several entertainment centers with no TV's. There was a porch all around the house on the top level and on the bottom. Can't describe how pretty the house and the place is but the sand and grassburrs are terribily irratating. We walked to a tank and it was sooo cold that day so we passed on walking to the back of the property where there was a stand of oak trees. The yard was large with tall trees and there was large gates with an overhead eagle on each. The place is between 50 and 100 acres and just beautiful but I would never want to live in sand and grassburrs. Maybe someone could pour cement walkways to alleviate some of the misery. I really can't describe the place here but it was on a country road and I want to go look the area over another time.

I agree about the burrs and the gophers that seem to congregate in the sand...I love TX but not that part of it.
The house and grounds around it sound lovely tho...When can I move in? LOL

Are you planning a move, Paula? That house sounds beautiful. Maybe a driveway could be paved, and some kind of spray put on the grassburrs to kill them out. I hate grassburrs, too.

PAULA IT SOUNDS LIKE A PLACE WE OKIES WOULD HAVE LIKED. I MEAN BACK DURING THE GREAT DEPRESSION YEARS.
DROUTH AND DUST STORMS AND THE SAND BURRS SEEMED TO SURVIVE. WE KIDS FOUND A WAY TO BE HAPPY EVEN WITH THE TUFF TIMES.
NO TV OR COMPUTER WITH DIGITAL CAMERA AND PRINTER AND MODERN ELECTRONICS, JUST WORKED AND PLAYED NOT REALIZING ADVERSE CONDITIONS PERHAPS BECAUSE WE HAD NOTHING TO COMPARE WITH.
WHY DID I GET OFF INTO THIS ? I SUPPOSE JUST BEING GRATEFUL FOR WHAT THERE IS HERE FOR US NOW. SHARING MODERN ELECTRONICS WITH CHILDREN THAT HAVE GROWN UP WITH TOYS THAT HAVE ELECTRONICS NEVER DREAMED OF DURING MY CHILDHOOD TIME. GOD BLESS OUR BABIES. sam

Sounds like a good place to live to be off by yourself however there are things about it not so good. Helen

Sound like a great place. We would love the porches. Is someone thinking of buying? Moving?

Hate sand spurs.
In Florida they call that 'stand of oaks' a hammock, I had to look it up since here a lot of things and businesses use the word hammock. I always thought it was a sleeping swing. ha!

If you go back down that country road take a picture.

I am down to Doc's looking at your beautiful header with the cows and the green green grass and trees. I love this photo. Got to catch up on your entry. House sounds very appealing but in the wrong place. I remember Mother and Dad built a house on his homestead way down in a field and Mother decided she hated the location even though it wasn't too far off the beaten track, so they tore the house down!

It sounds beautiful. Wonder what they are asking for it?
