We headed to Poth to buy the feed at eight this morning. My eyes weren't ready to open but when that front end loader driver dropped those huge tubs into the little Ford Ranger I woke up. I think he must have had a bad night and didn't really want to be at work. It was kind of different going there on Saturday. The Polish farmers and ranchers weren't standing around the parking lot chewing the fat waiting for their feed to be loaded. They must have other fish to fry on Saturday. In a little over an hour we were at the ranch and I drove and stopped when he hollered to unload a tub. Shelly Marie was using her big horns to control one tub then she stopped to listen to what I had to say. It was pretty out but the wind blew some all day so I didn't see any turtles when we drove over the dam. I sure was glad because I forgot to take some food for them. The renters out there are so strange. They are never out in the fresh air. I think they sleep very late. I don't know why they want to live out in the country if they don't get out and enjoy it. We went around to all the old machinery looking for a gear to use on something John needs to use on a planter in March. Then we took the gear he found to his daughter's house. On the way home on the country road his new phone rang. He was fumbling trying to get it out of the case. It was his sister and that is a good hour's conversation so I told him to pull over. It was nice we were even with one of the tiny ranches where there was a llama and a pony so I went over to the fence and visited with them. They came right to me but I think they wanted food not to visit. This whole road was a ranch where someone cut it into small pieces and sold them to people from the city. They call them their ranch and most have a few animals and they can come out and pretend. It gets old and expensive so up for sale they go again.

Just love the animals. It is hard to see if it is really food they want or is it that they just wanted to have some attention brought to them.It probably both.I really would'nt mind having a ranch.I may not have horses, mules or cows, but I could be like an extra place so owners can bring their horses etc...Like if they have to do mowing or tilling in the fields, were the animals stay, then they could bring them as ANIMALS ON HOLD.HA!HA! HEY!not a bad idea,if it were to ever happen.LOL!

Well, sounds like an all round great day. I know you wish youhad had something for the animals. It is fun to feed them. It took me a minute to understand Shelly Marie controlling one bucket eith her horns, ah, it hit me. using them to keep the barrel to herself for awhile, right?
TAke care.

You - the turtle whisperer forgot turtle treats?! No way! ;-)
I would be one of those city people on the little piece of land who believed I had a ranch.
Have a nice weekend Paula!

I can't believe you forgot the turtle feed. A lot of people buy animals then decide they don't to bother taking care of them. Then off they go if they can find someone who wants them. Shame that pony wasn't a donkey them you could have asked if they wanted to sell it. Helen

Sounds like you had a decent day Paula.I would certainly be out in the open living there, not hybernating like the renters.Make a large note REMEMBER FOOD (might see turtles or other animals),and place it near your door, then you will see it before getting in the truck, next time you go riding out.Have a great Sunday.Take Care God Bless Kath xx

PAULA, IT WAS ENJOYABLE YEARS AGO TO HAVE ANIMALS ON THE FARM, HORSES, DOGS AND MULES AND OF COURSE JERSEY COWS FOR RICH MILK.
IN RECENT YEARS WHILE LIVING UP IN THE MOUNTAINS WOULD LIKED TO HAVE HAD A BURRO OR TWO. THE BURROS WERE AVAILABLE THOUGH THE COLORADO WATER LAW DOES NOT ALLOW USING WATER FROM A NEWLY DRILLED WATER WELL FOR ANIMALS.
MY BEAUTIFUL FIVE ACRES HAD A NEWLY DRILLED WELL SO DID NOT GET THE BURRO. SOME OTHER NEIGHBORS DID HAUL WATER FROM CANON CITY FIFTEEN MILES AWAY TO WATER ANIMALS.
BURROS ARE SMART AND PLAYFUL. I WILL TRY TO CUT AND PASTE A STORY CONCERNING A BURRO OF QUITE A FEW YEARS AGO THAT WAS OWNED BY MY FATHER IN LAW.
SEE THE STORY IN MY BLOG ADDRESS BEING,

I B mad! this thing skipped me again. I like your rocking turtle.
I learned about the rough ground here inFlorida. I would not have believed they could do that much damage to the landscape with their noses!
Good picture of the one in the trap!
