Who Would Stick Their Head In The Mud On A Day Like Today?

I hate to keep rubbing it in but we did have another beautiful day. So after company left this afternoon we went to put out hay. The cattle were standing around waiting. Shelly Marie had a look on her face like what took you so long? We put out one for them to eat now and one in the pens with the gate closed so we can get to it if it rains again without taking a chance on getting stuck going to the hay yard. We wanted to go to the back forty to look for Meany and another cow who haven't brought their babies up to join the herd. We decided not to chance getting stuck back there although after three days of sun the ground is dry enough to drive on. Still clumsey to walk on where the cows have tromped and made indentations in the ground. I couldn't wait to get to the stock take to see if the turtles would come up. I could see heads popping up everywhere and more coming across the tank when I called them. They swim much faster when its warm. I think I saw Lucy's namesake from here in blogland but I wasn't on the end where they like to come out of the water so I'm not sure it was her/him. I saw two young turtles kind of swimming partly on a big turtle's back so I presume it was their mama. I need to perfect my throw more as they just do not see the puppy food unless I aim and throw it right in front of their little heads. Once in a while I hit one square in the head and it ducks in the water fast. Bet it thinks I'm trying to kill it. We put out mineral blocks and meal and tomorrow we will go to buy molassas tubs. John says next year he thinks he will go back to the liquid he put in to the feeders with a wheel the cows learn to lick and the wheel goes down into the molassas and brings it up for them to eat. He says he is getting too old to pull those 225# tubs off the truck taking a chance on it landing on his toe or hitting him in the leg. Gotta do some fancy foot work there. On the way home we took the country road where we see deer or wild turkeys at times but all we saw was two llamas on two different places.

Donna, no you were not the only one to have a bad day. And now drum roll please!!! I got a glimpse of sun. The bad news it is supposed to rain today and snow tomorrow but that glimpse of sun was a glimpse of hope. Of course then he tacked on temps are supposed to drop. It is in the lower 40's now. Paula times for cattle have really changed since I was little and we had cows. Glad you saw Lucy or Lucifer which ever for a second.

SPRINGTIME IS NOT FAR AWAY PAULA.
DO YOU HAVE MILK COWS TOO ? WITH SO MUCH WORK I'LL BET YOU BUY MILK AT THE STORE.
SO MUCH EASIER THAN MILKING TWICE A DAY.

WE HAD JERSEY MILK COWS, TWO OF THEM AND ONE OF THE 'CHORES' WAS MILKING BY HAND BEFORE BREAKFAST OF A MORNING, THEN AFTER BREAKFAST BEGAN THE DAY'S WORK FOLLOWING SLOPPING THE HOGS AND OTHER MINOR CHORES.
DURING THE SCHOOL TERM, AFTER BREAKFAST WALK THE THREE AND A HALF MILES TO SCHOOL UNLESS FORTUNATE TO CATCH A RIDE STANDING ON THE RUNNING BOARD OF A MODEL-T FORD WHICH ALMOST EVERYONE OWNED EXCEPT FOR THE ONES STILL USING A TEAM AND WAGON.
MY LAST TWO YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL THE SCHOOL BUSES BEGAN RUNNING.
PAULA, HERE'S HOPING YOU HAVE A NICE SPRING AND SUMMER. sam

I love it when youtalk of the molasses. I know those cows love the treat! Hey and a visit to the turtles! Sounds like a great TExas day. Even if someone has to do the Texas two-step to bet the molasses off the truck.
Hope old Meany and (whats her name) bring their calves up soon for a report.
TAke care. WE too had a great day!
