Here Turtles Here Turtles Come And Get It Or We Will Throw It To The Dogs

Have you ever heard that saying? Not said to turtles but said to people when calling them to supper. Today was a beautiful sunny day. We went to check the cattle (I mean the turtles) after lunch. The cattle are okay, grazing or chewing their cud. We checked the cow with the bad eye but she was afraid of the truck so we turned the other direction so as not to make her run into something sharp. I couldn't wait to check on my turtles but there were none in sight. It was warm and the water was not rippling. John said they can't hear you calling. They can just feel the vibration of the truck when we drive over the dam. Sooo I was about ready to give up and then I spotted one swimming as fast as it could toward me. Then they started coming out of the wood work so to speak. They seemed to all be accounted for, even Lucy. I fed until I could see John was getting bored out of his scull so I told them goodbye. As we drove through the dry creek bed where the mound home sweet home is I could see the top part was missing. Ants around here doesn't make that kind of mound and this is where I park and sit while waiting for John to walk the dry creek bed at times. I get out and sit on the edge of the creek bed and have watched that little round door. I've never seen any ants around there. I do yard work around fire ants all time. When I have time now that it is broken I will poke a stick in it to see if anything comes out. You have to understand John is out here to make money out of cattle and he isn't much interested in my little endeavors. I just have to work them in when I can and when the weather permits. When It gets warmer and I plan to give them their shower bath I will probably go out alone.

We women always have our own agenda, and we know how to be sneaky when it's required. Let the men laugh at us, but we know we're the ones who cook their meals. Haaaaaaaaa!

Love this header of cactus blooming in Texas. Looks very lush and green after the rains. Very nice. Reminds me of our desert here. Beautiful rather than barren.

Well I hope it's not a gator hole and I hope nothing jumps out at you. The turtles have been missing there 'Mama'. Take care, Sheila

Happy to hear your turtles came out to see you.

As for Jack's questions, ants form into a giant ball when it storms or floods and they just float along.

No need to worry too much about 'gators in a dry arid range. You might find an occasional rattler though.

We always said "Come and get it, 'for I slop it to the hogs!" (And we never had any hogs! lol) Glad the turtles are okay.
