And It Was Such A Neat Cut

We were driving around the farm to market road when I spotted something dead on the side of the road. It looked like a dead calf and it was next to the ranch John gave up to the farmer. So John made a u-turn when I told him there is a dead calf. When we pulled up beside it John said it is a large wild hog. It was but I couldn't believe my eyes. Someone had sawed it's face off. John said they must have wanted the tusk and snoot. My gosh it was a neat cut. I know people hate the wild hogs but------. They get hit by cars at night or hunters hunt them with dogs but I have never seen this and I can't get it out of my mind. It rained yesterday so there was no work done. Today Juan didn't show up which upset John some as he is anxious for the haygrazer seed to be in the ground. Fence builder showed up at noon and went to work. When we went to check on him he told us he had seen a big flock of wild turkeys and two of them were fighting. as we drove to the back side we came upon them. Some were able to fly over the deer proof fence and some got caught between our truck and and deer proof fence. They were running along looking for an escape so we got a good look at them. They couldn't get far enough out to get a running start with enough leverage to clear the tall fence. They didn't need to have any fear from us. When we got almost to the end of the property we saw another flock with some gobblers in it. John said they are probably looking for his seed. The deer and hogs always like to make havock back there and now the turkeys. Its a dead in lane and no one goes back there much when it isn't deer season so they can eat in peace. John didn't have time for me to feed the turtles so I'll have to make up for it next time. If I lived out there they would be so fat thier shell wouldn't fit and so spoiled they would follow me to the house. We did have a cow that always tried to follow me in the house. Her name was Lupe and she was solid black. I would have to run fast to close the screen door.

If you lived too near the turtles they would become just as spoiled as any other pet and it frustrate you when they went on the occasional hunger strike. All pets do this from time to time and it makes me insane!

What a waste of some good eating pork...too bad but I am aware of the overpopulation of the hogs. The boars aren't the best tasting tho...he must have been a big boy for someone to do that.

I love that your cow would want to follow you to the house...you are a magnet to the pets...cause you are a warm hearted sweet soul, Paula.

Have a great day
