Happy May Day Y'all

It was down right cold on the tank dam this morning. Yeah I know you nice peole from up north would laugh. We don't even know how to spell cold. Even the turtles thought it was cold. Only one came to eat at first. I had to call and call and tell them to get out of that warm mud bed. Finally I had about ten or twelve where I can usually count at least 25. Did you ever try to count turtles? It ain't easy, some are in when the others are out. Anyway what I guess I'm trying to say is, it is cool this morning for May the 1st in south Texas. When I was a kid on May Day we used to pick wild flowers in a large field and make them in to sort of a bouquet. We would put a bunch on someone's front porch, knock on the door and run away giggling.

I sorta remember a may pole. and I think I was a trupeteer for the celebration. Mom made me my pantaloons and you could see my underwear through them.
I know the turtles are glad you weathered the cold to bring them the food!!!!

MAY DAY YEAR 1927. STILL REMEMBER IT.
THE MAYPOLE WAS WRAPPED WITH MISTAKES AND EMBARRASMENT TO THE HOME ROOM TEACHER, MAINLY BECAUSE TEACHER'S PET IS PERFECT.

I WAS 'CAPTAIN JINX OF THE HORSE MARINES', I FEED MY HORSE ON CORN AND BEANS. - CAN'T REMEMBER THE REST OF MY LITTLE SPEECH.

PART OF MY ARRAY WAS A BEAUTIFUL WOODEN SWORD MADE BY A CARPENTER FRIEND OF MY DAD.
THE TEACHER BEGGED FOR THE SWORD. THIS WAS DURING THE 'BOOM YEARS' BEFORE THE WALL STREET CRASH OF YEAR 1929. TULSA OKLAHOMA. sam

Happy May Day to you too Paula. I helped split more firewood with Bill today and was distracted by the white dots throughout the woods beyond our work area. The dots were May Flowers. They say April showers, bring May flowers. We had 1.2 inches of rain yesterday, so I guess the old adage is true after all!
I remember making paper cones in grade school and filling them with wood violets for Mom. Then, when my daughter was in the grades, She brought Me violets in a paper cone. Love May Day~~~I'm sure the turtles did too, with the treats you brought them.
Blessya Paula and John

Late Happy May day to you. Wonder why our calander did not mention Arbor day. Schools were out that Friday and yesterday we noticed an article about Arbor day. Maybe that is just a ne. holiday. It was founded in Ne. City. We used to get a little sapling from school to plant every year. Can't remember any living.

What a nice May Day tradition you had growing up. In my neighborhood, the kids were more likely to just ring the doorbell and run away giggling. Without leaving anything ...
Best,
Marty

I used to fill May Day baskets with dandelions and give them to my mom -- she was never too impressed.

I did that May Day morning putting a flower basket on a stoop, knocked, and run like Hell.
I wasn't looking for what happened next. The couple having no children their own. I for one was given full access to a very very-private lake full of grand fish: Bluegills, Sunfish, Rock Bass, Bass, plus a now and then surprise. No license was required.

when i was a kid in california we never celebrated "may day", but when mother moved us to mn all the kids did there. my little brother -6years old-put a basket on a lady's porch and ran, but she caught him and smothered him with kisses. he early learned to like the girls and had four wivesat last count!!!! barb
