We're Singing In The Rain

It has rained here all day today. Just a nice soaking rain where you can almost hear the grass growing. John had planned to work cattle tomorrow and had already engaged the cowboy with his horse. Cowboy couldn't do it last week because of a doctor appointment. Seems he got a little ruffed up by a cow a few weeks ago but he is okay now. We drove over to his coffee/ shooting the breeze place to see if he is still willing. He said its up to John so we drove out to see how muddy it is. Looked muddy to me but John is determined so we went back to the coffee talkers and cowboy was still there. So they are set to work cattle tomorrow morning at eight. The cowboy will head them toward the pens with his horse. They will cut out the calves that are big enough to go to market and maybe an older cow or two. They will drive them through the pens and down a chute and into cowboy's trailer. The young calves will be vacinated and the tip of their right ear cut off so that John can tell from a distance which ones have been vacinated. The calves on this particular place must be vacinated because this place is known for a disease called Black Leg. Sometime there is other things that must be done such as medicate. This time there will be nothing extra. At one time he did brand his cattle that he planned to keep for a long time. He doesn't do that any longer as it is a hard and hot job and he doesn't move his cows from place to place. They seem to be happy and stay in their home land. Doesn't take much to make cattle happy as long as they have plenty of feed and water. Our area has had enough rain to keep the grass green and the tanks full of water.
