How long does it take birds to find a new bird feeder? How many days has it been since I posted I hung my new coach light bird feeder I earned by collecting points from doing online surveys? I purposely hung it in the middle of the back yard in plain sight of the window where we eat so we could watch them enjoying their seed too. It is on a limb bare of leaves so whats the problem here? I'm thinking they are senior citizen birds. Maybe they are like us can't see as well as they once could. Guess they wouldn't need to hear for this. John seems to find his food real well and he is hard of hearing. Maybe they don't like change like me and John. They have a feeder in the front yard but it sometimes gets low on seed. Maybe their little wings have arthuriris ( heck I don't even know how to spell it bet someone will correct me on that) and they don't feel like flying from the front tree to the back. I find myself looking out the window several times a day but no birds yet.

Hi Paula. I love watching the birds in my yard too. Do you think they "watch us back"? LOL.
I saw your comment about my hike with my friend Linda yesterday. No we usually don't take lunch with us. We hike in the morning and usually are back home by lunch time. We carry a jacket, water, cameras, binoculars, etc. in the back packs.

Check to make sure there aren't any hoses or pieces of rope laying near the feeder -- birds can sometimes mistake those items for snakes and stay away.
I hope they don't see any cats in back is what is keeping them away. Between the hawks and stray cats I don't hardly have any cardinals this year. The back yard used to be covered with them in the winter. Helen
the small black oil sunflower seeds will entice just about any of our feathered friends. They must be just like us tho, Paula, weary of change and slow to get with the program. All it takes is one to try the new feeder, and the rest will follow. Love the picture. This reminds me that I need to buy seed tomorrow.

Cute...ha. after reading Jack's comment I had to go back and look...ha. I didn't notice the first time...maybe they think if they wait long enough, you'll give in and put some feed in front..ha.
Now this is a new one on me and I don't know how it all came out, but we had a huge fire downtown and it was cold and the firemen were sliding and ice was forming. A lady found 3 pigeons with their tails frozen to the spot and they were still alive, so she took them and was going to thaw their tail feathers out with a hair dryer and try to keep them alive, and then release them. By the way, the birds will come sooner or later.
I envy you your location. No bird feeders for me 9 stories up, but I used to love living on the patio with Pierre, hummingbird feeders, and birds singing outside the door every morning.
