Important Man On Campus

Noel thinks the world was made for him. He is everywhere checking everything out while Happy seems to just be in awe of the world. She just stands and stares as if trying to figure it all out. I always wonder exactly what are they thinking? We put out three large round bales of hay getting prepared for the cold and rain the weathermen say is coming. After we finished our chores we stopped at the stock tank for me to feed the turtles. I called and called but they must have buried deep preparing for the cold too. I didn't know turtles had weather men. Not one turtle peeped it's head out. When we came home I decided I should rake my leaves since my neighbor has raked little piles next to my property and then left them there several days as it to signal they blew from my yard. While I was raking I raked across a little rusty snake about a foot long. You know its hard to measure a snake when it is wiggling and your trying to hit it with the back of the rake. It had a little pointed head. I know someone is going to say you should have not killed that snake, its a good one. Well it is in the bottom of my garbage can maybe dead, maybe alive, maybe stunned, under a pile of leaves. Maybe I should have put it in my neighbor's pile of leaves, you think?

For sure! I hate obvious hints that it may be my fault, especially when it's true (lol).

Yeah, you missed you chance to help the neighbor by supplying needed meat!

I once ran into a lady where the FLorida forestry had completed a control burn. A fair size rattler had been caught in the blaze. The lady was standing there saying 'how sad, it was bothering no one.'

I just shook my head and kept on walking.

I feel like Clower the comedian, how do you kill a rattlesnake wrong??!!

Glad the new additions to the family are doing well. I would have attacked the snake and asked questions later...ha. As long as it was a small one, but if it was larger or looked too much like a rattler, I would have went back in the house...ha.

No Sheila I know a rattlesnake. It wasn't one of those. I probably would have gone in the house and called the police. lol

Jimmy the leaves in my neighbor's yard was partly my fault but not completely. I only have boring Arizona Ash trees and some of these leaves were off a tree that made leaves larger then my hand opened up. Some had a shape like some sort of Maple tree. Humm maybe I should sniff out where they came from.

Yes, snakes are useful. So are spiders- but I kill those if they're on my turf!

Glad that the calves are doing fine. I would have whacked at that snake myself. I hope it doesn't come out of the can next time you open the lid.

I think you should have put it in a gift bag on your neighbors front porch, rang the doorbell and ran away! Oh my, I am getting quite mean in my old age, LOL! :-)

Hi Paula,
Thanks for coming by my Hiking Blog. You asked about my brother. He is doing fine. He lives about 50 miles from us and can only go hiking with me when he visits. Thanks for caring.

Long time ago I was at Fiesta in San Antonio and everyone had what appeared to be fried chicken on sticks.

I bought one and thought it yummy....

Then my former mother-in-law said "Oh, you're indulging in rattlesnake!"

No wonder it looked like a fried circle of meat. LOL. And yes...it tasted like chicken!
