Paddles & Razor Straps

Hope everyone had a nice Saint Patrick's Day. The hospital cafeteria where we eat a lot was decorated so pretty with green tablecloths and green and white center pieces. The cafeteria employees all had on the cute little hats and necklaces and shamrocks were on the windows and walls. They really do put you in the mood for holidays.
We've been going to the ranch to feed the cows and turtles but there isn't much to write about except the wind blows everyday and makes it seem that much more dryer.
So since I don't have anything to write about I will tell you a memory I had today of when my girls were young. I sent a forward to an online friend of little kids misbehaving and getting into things. She e-mailed back "Oh my gosh where's my paddle?" lol Like me she raised her kids in the days when you could paddle your kids and not get into trouble. I think it paid off as my girls are nice and from what she has told me her kids are too. As soon as I read the words she wrote I thought of the razor strap we had to paddle with. It was more of a threat I guess. You probably know what a razor strap is--A long piece of leather used to sharpen straight edge razors like men used to use. Men would flick the razor back and forth on the strap. My husband didn't use it, it was just something else we had accumlated along the way. All of a sudden we couldn't find the razor strap anywhere. It just mysteriously dissapeared. I looked high and low so no more threats to use it. One day when I cleaned the chrisper out, the drawer in the refridgerator deep under the lettuce and tomatoes and the papertowels lining the drawer I found the razor strap. At first I'm confused, how did that get there? I know I'm not losing it yet. Then it dawned on me the girls had hid it there. I guess they thought if we did find it and spanked them at least their little hinnies would be cool.

Smart girls! I'm surprised you never suspected them way back when it first disappeared.

Oh that is a good story, too funny! And in the crisper to boot. I just got to thinking my paddle is missing, I wonder what happened to it? LOL...I haven't had to use it in a long long time but I just realized it's not on the microwave anymore, hmm. Maybe I should check the crisper? Have a great weekend!

Are the Hummers "really" at your house..??
Should we look for them in about 2 weeks...??

Enjoy

As usual you can make a great entry. Yes I remember the strap and the paddle, but mama mostly used a hickory, that is what she called it. Of course it was not a hickory switch, it usually came off the hedges we had that did not get trimmes as they do today.
To repeat myself, Great entry.

How cute is that...and to think they put it in the crisper! I remember being paddled by my mom one time. I learned my lesson and never repeated that violation.

Oh, that's funny Paula! I never got the razor strap when I was a kid, my dad always used a switch. Of course, my mom was liable to smack your hiney with anything that was handy. Flyswatters, belts, her hand, whatever. I'm sure I wasn't as smart as your girls but...it's hard to hide the weapon when you don't know what it's going to be.

Oh that is a great story!! Your girls were pretty smart, weren't they? That reminds me of a story I'm going to have to tell on Thomas. Think I'll write that one up in the blog.

I noticed the wind here in Fort Worth, too ... though the weather here has been beautiful.

LoL ! That was great! Reminded me of a similar scenario between myself and my 3 girls! Except they buried my wooden spoons in our back yard!___=^..^=___Kittie

LOL! I'm Italian so the threat was always the wooden spoon. I even broke one slamming it on the counter but never once actually used it on my kids. I never spanked them and they have all turned out to be great kids too :-)

PS - I've head the WD40 is good for arthritis. I wonder if it really works? I've had arthritis since I was in my 20s and my poor daughter was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis at 9 years old.
