Not Enough Meat To Fill My Paw

I think that is what Susie thinks about hummingbirds. She could take one swipe and knock a hummingbird to the ground and be on top of it before it could say "Jack Robinson". You say why would I let her get near them? In all the years I've had her she has never killed a bird, stalked a bird, or paid attention to a bird. A mouse or gohper is a different story, not that she has too much opportunity to catch one of those either. In this picture Susie is right outside our table and she sits and glares at us if she hasn't been fed. If she has been fed she moves to the left on top of the tall garbage can and just in reach of the hummingbird feeder to take a nap or just watch the show the hummingbirds perform. They are use to her and not afraid of her. We had to go buy a bag of sugar a while ago as we have more hummingbirds then we've ever had and they are thirsty. We don't have as many flowers around here as usual. I think the harder winter we had killed some of the blooming bushes and the ones that are coming back are slower. I'm thinking with the price of gasoline and groceries not as many senior citizens are feeding the little guys this year. In the meantime we will keep feeding them and feeding Susie so she doesn't get an idea to have bird meat for supper. We and Susie will enjoy their show until they leave this fall.

Hummingbirds are special and precious I agree with you 100%! And God bless you for your hospitality and taking care of them! I usually have a few that come and stay through the spring & summer. But I haven't seen them yet, and it has me a little worried...Maybe you have an abundonse because mine are hanging out with you guys in Texas!...Well, everyone needs a change once in a while huh?

Also, I've seen on the news that Texas is having a record drought and that you're haveing some "MAJOR FIRES". Does that include where you're at? Are you guys okay? Is there anything I might be able to do to help you if you're in an unsafe area...E-mail me Kiddo! I'm a bit worried!___=^..^=___Kittie

It was about this time last year that my first hummingbirds arrived; I'm ready for them!

My indoor cats grew up around a cage full of finches and another cage with a cockatiel -- so birds were just messy roommates to them!

I have never had any luck attracting hummingbirds. They were here one year and never been back since.Funny they came but I can't remember what kind of flowers we had out that year but that was where they fed at. I went and bought a hummingbird feeder ad they never came back.

I love the hummers. They are amazing to watch and so tiny. Sometimes they will sit on the top of the feeder hook and just sun their rainbow bodies. Love them. Our feral cat never has come near the feeders either...gotta respect that.

Glad that Susie is a mouser and not a birder. I haven't seen a hummer yet this season. Helen

I love your cat picture! Our hummers have not made it yet, but I have been expecting them. It seems that we have more every year.

Hmmm ... sounds like Susie has a nice life, not to mention the hummingbirds, cattle and turtles in your neighborhood. I'll bet you have animals lined-up outside your door from dawn til dusk!

My kitty goes out every morning to climb trees and run then comes indoors, sleeps for about 4-5 hours and then back out again. She just watches birds, doesn't chase them but she did chase a roadrunner the other day and it was funny; I'm surprised that that big bird ran from her because even tho kitty is full grown, she is on the small side! My kitty stays inside all night.:)

How amazing Susie doesn't bother the little guys. My hummers haven't shown up yet but I'll be putting the juice out soon just in case.

I enjoy the hummers but haven't put any feeders out for the past few years. Hope you enjoy their stay and that Susie continues to leave them in peace.

So Susie is still around, huh? Well I am glad she leaves the hummingbirds alone because they are beautiful I think. I actually have a tattoo of one on my leg. Anyway, take care Ms Paula.
