Turkey Time

I could set my watch by the wild turkeys. Lately we've been going out late in the evening to feed because of the heat. When John lets me off on the tank dam it is exactly six o'clock and the turkeys are there to get a drink. Of course I haven't been able to train them YET so they run for cover. I've started a new game with some of the turtles. I've been taking old bread instead of cat food. I'll tear off a large piece of bread and offer it to one of the turtles who have come up onto the ground near my feet. It will bite into it and hold on and I'm holding on just as firm on the other end. When it is able to break part off it runs for the water. Those turtles can run faster then you would think when they want to. The little twin baby calves are so cute. They stay together all time now and when they lay down they lay facing each other. Maybe so one can't leave without the other. We found a new calf yesterday and one today. The cows are looking kind of skinny and boney with the drought we have in full swing here now but John is doing the best he can. The government has come through with some help with the feed bill now since it is considered an extreme drought this spring in this area. Thank goodness he has a well to fill the stock tank every few days. Lots of wild ducks visiting today too. One day I would like to go just before dark and sit on the tank dam to see just what does come around to drink. I know we could get a camera but I prefer to see them in person.

I'd rather have wild turkeys than crows. We've got tons of lousy crows all over the place now.

Maybe Lucy just grew and changed colors, or found a mate You have a beautiful header. We have wild turkeys off and on at times. I wish I could send you some of our rain. I think that would be neat to sit and watch what all comes to drink.

I hope that drought don't last long.

Turtles can move fast. I remember when I was 13, I had a pet turtle. I set him down outside while I ran inside to use the bathroom. I wasn't gone but a few minutes and my turtle had went far enough away that I couldn't find him.

We have wild turkeys here, but I am not out in the right place to see them. I think I may be too indoorsy. I almost envy your Texas tales and experiences! I do love your header.

Isn't it funny how fast the turtles are? I wonder who ever started the saying "slow as a turtle?" It's really not true at all!

I envy the chance to watch the turkeys Paula. I don't see many these days down on the coast but see them almost every time I go to the refuge...they are magnificent birds. I really love reading your country tales...keep 'em comin'...please!
