We're So Excited We're Wetting Our Plants

When we went to Poth Texas to buy salt and mineral for the cattle we passed a small flower nursery who had this sign up---Spring is here and we are so excited we're wetting our plants. Kind of cute and fitting I thought. Speaking of sayings have you heard the one Do all liars fish or do all fishermen lie? Thought of this one this morning as Do all rattlesnake killers lie, or do all liars kill rattlesnakes? As we were passing through a gate going to the east property I saw a rattlesnake slithering into a cactus bush. I yelled snake, snake. John has a hard time seeing so he stopped the truck and finally saw it. As many rattlesnakes as you see you still get excited. I don't have a gun he yelled while I'm keeping my eye on it to see where it goes. He found a metal pole by the fence and began beating the snake. Missed a couple of times but was able to break it's back so it was unable to strike. Then continued to kill it by hitting it's head. On the way back from feeding the new mother and calf we found in a field all by themselves we were still discussing the snake. I said I think it was about two feet long and John said oh no it was at least four or five feet long. Oh well we both agreed it was a fat one and it was good it can't bite a cow or calf now.

Lol..Paula, that is the cutest saying about wetting your plants, never heard that one. I have heard the one on fisherman. That is a good one around here because we live so close to the Tennessee River. Most all of the men around here lie..uh-uh..fish. That cactus plant you pictured is beautiful! I may not think so if I fell into it...haa...especially if a rattlesnake was in it!!

I love that term and will add it to my ongoing list of cool plant phrases.

I have never heard the spring saying before. But I have the fishermen. Glad that he got that rattlesnake. I dislike them very much. They are dangerous creatures.

There was a black snake once that I stepped on going up the stairs INSIDE my house. I thought it was cords at first! I didn't get bit or anything but OH I SCREAMED.

Paula, that was great. Right down to the rattlesnake killing. My son and daughter in law live in a small town about 10 miles out of Lincoln. She loves to plant and dig in the dirt. She carries a spade everywhere she goes because they get bull snakes. My son says the snakes look like chopped liver when she gets done.

The only good rattler is a dead rattler! By the way, I'm unsure if all liars fish but most defintely, all fishermen lie!

I am curious about how many cattle you have lost to rattlesnakes over the years. My grandparents ranch in western South Dakota was snake riddled. We always watched the ground when we were outside. Before you went out the door, you looked to see if there was a snake on the front porch. As a child, I frequently dreamt about rattlesnakes. Actually, that would not have been a dream, but a nightmare!
