There Seems To Be A Roadrunner Convention At The Ranch

First let me say I wasn't clear on the picture on my last post of the cow eating pear apples. I didn't take that picture because the cow was in misery. I took the picture to show she is hog heaven eating pear apples. They throw their head back to keep the apple from falling to the ground where they have to pick it up from the dirt and I imagine the dirt or sand doesn't taste so good. Of course I've said before if I had to make a choice between liver and dirt, I would choose the dirt. Seemed a lot of you were feeling sorry for the cow so I wanted to clear that up. As I said they do at times get a little thorn in their mouth and make funny faces trying to dislodge it. They have food to eat and don't have to eat these to survive but they are a treat to them that they only get once a year. This ranch always has roadrunners (chaparell birds) (pasianos) but this morning they were everywhere. Sometime we don't see any and some time a few but this morning they were everywhere doing what they do best. Run up and down to where and what I don't know. We saw two more cotton tail rabbits in the lane to the back forty. I don't think it is the same two we have been seeing near the cattle pens so I'm happy it seems they are making a come back. John said one of them looked pregnant. I couldn't tell she wasn't wearing a maternity dress. Oh thats right this isn't the 50's they don't wear those any longer.

Oh my just the word reminds me of Spunky eating the baby rabbit and me getting to make him bring it back up. I will never think of rabbits the same. Good one on the maternity dress.

Thanks for clarifying regarding the cow ... nice to know it was happy, afterall. Not so sure I'd be happy eating a pear apple but then, again, I've never tried one. As for the road runners, the more the merrier ... as long as they're not attracting Wile E. Coyotes!

The road runner is a fascinating creature. Until I visited Texs I thought they were the creation from someone's imaginations. But they are FAST!!!
TAke care enjoyed the entry as always.

Paula, I gotta tellya, I never saw any two legged creature/bird move so fast as the Roadrunner. Every time we visit TX, I try to get a picture of one, but no luck yet...one day, one day they will not outsmart or outrun my camera. I do have a picture of a fox hound climbing the neighbors iron fence, tho.
I have see the cows eat the pear apples, and they do throw their heads back just like when they eat a regular apple...appreciation for a good snack.

I admittedly love roadrunners. There were lots of them down in San Angelo, where I used to live, but I haven't seen any here on the high plains. I think they're too smart to come here......

I remember seeing roadrunners and jackrabbits out west...they are interesting. None around here. Glad the cow enjoys the pear apples.
