Honesty Still The Best Policy
I was reading something a second cousin of my husband wrote about they they built Hwy 37 throught the east side of san antonio. She said the police were giving the teens a hassle about racing on the public streets so they got the idea to mark off the new highway with start and finish signs and use it for racing before it was opened to public traffic. I don't imagine that lasted long either. It reminded me ofou r own story of then they built the new highway. My husband's younger brother and his wife were newly married and living in a large two story apartment house slap dab in the highway's path. Everyone had a limited timee to vacate so they could dispose of the houses. They were the only people still left on their street because they had to wait until they completed papers on buying a house in another part of town. We went to visit them one last time. There was a chain length fence around the place with good double gates. Wonder what they are going to do with those gates my husband ask his brother. They are just disposing fo everything as far as I know he said. My husband said I sure could use those gates. They decided he may as well have them as anyone so they loaded them up on lur pickup. I wasn't too keen on it but thought well I guess its okay. In the middle of the night Mel's conscience paid him a visit. He couldn't sleep, he had to work next day. Needed to get to sleep, but couldn't. Finally I told him if it bothers you that much take those gates back. He called his brother in the middle of the night and told him I'm bringing the gates back.. Mel loaded them back up, took them back an unloaded them, came home and slept peacefully forever after.
