Another Joy Of Living In South Texas

A few days ago John talked me into walking out into this field of yellow flowers to look over the fence at a new baby calf. All was fine and dandy until night fell and I was itching like crazy from chigger bites. Had on jeans and socks but that doesn't matter, those little buggers can get everywhere and they are miserable. They never seem to bother him and he doesn't have any repellant on either. I'm thinking you people in colder climate doesn't have them. They are so small you can't see them with the naked eye and you don't know you've been bit until several hours later and then it's too late. Another joy of living in south Texas.

Oh my heart goes out to you. Those miserable little chiggers used to chew me up when I lived in Missouri.
Try calamine lotion.

I can certainly sympathize with your misery. I didn't know what chiggers were until I moved to Texas. They were rampant in San Angelo and Odessa.
Fortunately I haven't been plagued with them where I live now.
You could possibly try using rubbing alcohol on them.

Oh Lord, Paula. I can relate to this post...lol. It has been a while, but I very well remember chigger bites. Don't let John lure you out there again. On second thought, a baby calf is worth it!
Take care, DD

When I was a kid in north Missouri (100 miles north of here) I itched all summer long from chiggers, especially during the week I spent at Grandma's. Now I never am bothered. Maybe it's because I don't sit in the grass and play in the weeds nowadays.

Ugh I hate those things. Thank goodness I haven't gotten them around here but I have in other places, like New Davey. They actually have them in Michigan but they are in the lakes and around the beaches for a couple of weeks in the early summer up there. You just waited to go swimming until they were gone, if you didn't you paid the price. Down here I spray Deep woods off on my shoes, lower legs and pants. Seems to keep them off. Good Luck with those itches!

I used to get eat up with them when I was younger but they never bother me now. I used to paint each bite with clear finger nail polish. They claimed it smothered them.

We have chiggers in Kentucky and Indiana. We use something called Duranon that seems to work for them. When I was a kid I learned from one of my best friends to cover a chigger bite with clear nail polish and then put a piece of paper or paper towel on it and leave it for a while. The polish and paper apparently smother the chigger. I used to wonder about that, but it worked. And when I got married I found out that Thomas' family did the same thing.
