Quality Time With The Turtles

Usually when I feed the turtles John lets me off on the tank dam and he runs an errand on the ranch. Sometime he comes right back and is ready to go. Yesterday I drove myself down there while he and a workhand was working on the farm house. So I plunked my self down on the bank and watched the turtles and two cat fish eat. They all seem to get along well. The fish and the turtles do. Two turtles will get into a hussle over a piece of bread at times. A friend recently told me he shoots turtles. Grrr I didn't like that a bit. I ask him if they have a stripe on each side of their face and he said I think so. Humm I don't like for people to shoot Red Earred Sliders. He said they eat fish eggs. Floor Tile came out of the water but he/she was so mucky with green stuff I could barely tell who it was. Before dark we went riding over the place and I spotted a cow off to herself. John said she is due to have a calf so he got out to look. The cow was looking the other direction trying to throw us off of the direction her calf was. They do that, mama cows are smart. Sometime they will walk the oppisite direction. John outsmarted her and found it right away (he's been around the block with cattle a couple of times). He didn't bother it as she was giving him a very dirty look.

the folks that lived here before we bought the place told us they sat out on their deck w/ their .22s shooting turtles all the time. i believe it, too, based on the shell casings i've found for YEARS!

Glad to hear that you are getting too feed the turtles pretty regular now. I don't see why anyone needs to shoot turtles. Actually anything that is harmless. I have a soft heart.

I think it was National Turtle Day recently. Sad to hear about somebody shooting them. FUNNY about the cow trying to distract John.

I remember how those mama's would hide their babies. I figured out something though. Our horse stayed right with the cows babies. I knew where to look for them then. He would try to run me down when I got to close to those babies. I kept my distance too. People shouldn't kill animals just for the fun of it if they are doing no harm.

I love the fact you name everything. I guess it is part of your nature. I am sure glad you named one Toby (a long time ago).
I like the stories of the turtles and John's knowledge of cows.
Love from across the Gulf and up into the mountains!!!!

I'm not surprised that John is smarter than the cows (lol), but it is amazing to me that the cows are smart enough to look in a different direction to try to fool you about where the calf is.
