Don't Let These Little Piggies Fool You!

They would have grown up to be destroyers, but they accidently met their fate in a very large puddle of water. We were holding the three grown wild hogs for some men and over night one sow gave birth. The next night it came a gulley washer (hard rain) and the Mama dug a deep hole in the middle of the pens. Evidently she was making a place so she could lay over the babies to protect them but instead it filled with water. Only one lived and John's daughter took it to raise until it started to be mean so she gave it away. Wild hogs do a lot of damage to crops, even the bottom of fences, and will eat small animals. This is an old picture I ran across. We don't trap wild hogs any longer.

I feel sorry for the farmers that have to deal with the wild hogs. They cause so much damage! Too bad more people don't hunt them for the meat. We came down to TX one year and did that. We harvested one that weighed around 200 pounds and it was excellent eating:) Instead of food stamps they should give out hog permits.

i've seen them down the road a bit here, but never on our property. i'm sure they run thru the creek, though.

Once you see the damage they can do YOU WILL NOT FORGET IT SOON! I was amazed the fist time I saw the damage in Florida.
Mel has a good idea about the hunting, but some folk would consider that beneath them.
I miss Hog-Killing time. It was a festive occasion when I was a kid.

And I was letting them fool me because I was thinking: Oh, how cute they are.

I like hogs and pigs but piglets become adults and wild hogs are destructive and mean.

They taste great when rosted on a slow open pit fire.

There's a whole TV show dedicated to catching hogs :-)

Wild hogs are extremely destructive and intimidating. I've seen them around San Angelo, but I haven't seen any here where I live now (not YET, anyway).
