Another Donkey Attack In Our Area

I have always liked donkeys especially the little ones. I have really wanted one but no chance of convincing John. Now I'm having second thoughts. It's hard to believe anything so cute could be so mean. Several months ago a donkey attacked it's master and killed him. Today I learned that in October a man we know was knocked to the ground by his donkey that he was trying to lead to another pasture. The man was supposed to come home to sign some papers and when he didn't show up his wife knew something was wrong so she went to their 700 acre ranch. She says God led her as she went right to him and found him on the ground severally injured. He was in the hospital for weeks and is still in therapy and will probably have to have some surgery. This family has certainly learned the dangers of ranching as the wife was bitten by a rattlesnake a couple of years ago and almost died.

I would never have guessed that donkeys were dangerous. I guess I will stick with cows (while remaining cautious of the bulls).

I've had them they are dangerous. You do not turn your back on them and never ever trust them, they will nail you!! I doubt I'd get another one, too many kids around here.

I never heard of such a thing. WOW, yep I would definitely have second thoughts.
I still cannot get over that. YOu learn something ever day, if you listen and read...
Thanks.. Hope the rancher gets back 100%.

Methinks I would have to shoot the jackass.

I haven't personally seen a mean donkey, but I've heard numerous stories about how vicious and dangerous they can be.

How tragic! I had no idea!

I suppose that means that no donkey is on your horizon.

Hi Paula,

I have never heard that, but it sounds right. I would be afraid of a donkey. But then, I am afraid of a cow...lol.

I am just getting over the flu...much better.

Your header is beautiful.

I've heard that some keep donkeys to protect their herd from the coyotes, etc. and are very protective. I'd be on guard of any animal as they have a natural instinct to protect what they 'think' is theirs. Poor fella that got hurt. I hope he comes out OK. Sad about the one that had to die.
Moral I guess is to never turn your back on a Jackass...I'd have to shoot too.
BlessYa, Paula

I have never had much to do with donkeys and maybe that is why we never had them on the farm. I have had more experience with a goat now that I have lived with one all these years since Barb and Ben moved down here. She still has his goat and when it was nicer and Ben could no longer get it out for excercise, she would walk it. I will never forget her saying that goat screamed and lunged trying to get loose when they put his master in the ambulance. You would not think a goat would have emotions like that.

I don't know very much about donkeys but from what I do know - and I may be going out on a limb here - I would tend to think that one that turned on its owner may have been subject to some abuse.
