Deer Search

I was chomping at the bits today wanting to go hunt for the exotic deer. If you've read my blog long you may know I like to find things that are lost. We didn't go early though, we let the banker and his boys do the searching. Later in the day we did go but I guess the deer is several ranches over by now, maybe never to be found again. John got out and walked the fence looking for ways it could have got out but didn't find a break in the fence. He did scare up one white tail. The banker thinks the gas company may have come through (they have large gates through the properties in case they have to do repairs) but only they have keys. Banker thinks they may have left the gate open just a minute as they were coming right back and the deer just happened along and walked through. I think he should put an ad in the paper for anyone who has spotted it to let him know. While John was out walking the fence I did some snooping of my own. I saw a red ribbon tied high on the back deer proof fence. Humm now there must be some reason for this I assumed so I walked over and see there is space dug out where a small animal could crawl under the fence. I'm thinking wild piggies but then I spot a shiny wire in a circle under the fence covering the space. I've always heard of snares but never knew how they work. Humm I'm not sure what they were trying to catch. Small pig, coyote so I show it to John and he wants to know how I found it. Well that red ribbon is tied on that fence for some reason. He says snares are illegal. We found one once before and noticed it because there was a dead coyote in it and the buzzards were there. You just never know what you will find on the back forty. Boy! I'm going to miss it when they sell that place and I do think it will sell sooner or later.

Would you believe I miss my old druggie neighbors a little bit? It was like having my own soap opera. I don't want them back, mind you... but they did liven things up around here.

I would imagine within 40 acres there are a lot of things going on!

pretty scary that you were back there with snares set about!

Snares are cruel and should be illegal any where. Of course I have a tendency to side with the animals except Bulls, snakes and anything else that can be mean.

Interesting post. You come up with some great ones. I like the idea that the deer was able to get out of jail, but he might also have signed his death warrent, some hunter would love to bag that in or out of season. And if he is farenough back in a BACK 40, who is to know.

I love those big animals though.

You are one sharp eye'd lady that is for sure. Iffen the banker had any sense he would assign a guy with a tranquilizer and hire you to do the snooping...
