Associating With The Birds

Can you see the iron steps and stand in the big oak tree? There are several deer blinds at the ranch. Tall ones, short ones, medium ones. Some that are worse for the wear from weather. We don't hunt or have any rights to, but if I did I would like this deer stand. It is made of iron, sturdy and good rails to hold on to and what a birds eye view! I've always wanted to climb up there and sit for a spell. Good place to contemplate and think, to be thankful. Maybe someday. When we pass this tree we are always looking for cows, counting to see if they are all still there. Checking to see if a Mama has had her calf and is okay, checking to see if the grass is greening up. Always checking, but someday I'm going to catch John in a calm mood and ask him to leave me here awhile then come back to pick me up after I have associated with the birds. The picture is bad I know but I hope you can see the iron steps and the stand to sit on and hope you can imagine the thoughts you could think up there with the birds.

I saw this on someone's post today -
Thomas Merton - Thoughts in Solitude
My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

I thought of this when I read your post.

That sounds like such a great idea, to climb up and sit and contemplate. I think I would like that also.

But the problem is, WE ARE ALL in too big a hurry. Seldom, and I mean Seldom, so we just stop, find a place to just sit and let the mind wander. BUT when we do it is so rewarding.
I hope you get to do that one day, what an entry you would make.
Love from this side of the Gulf.

Looks like a great place to sit and let our mind wonder. I hope you get the chance one day, but be careful and don't fall looks like a long way to the ground. Lol. Take care.

Hubby always tells me one reason he loves to hunt is to be closer to nature. Someday, I'm going to convince him to shoot a camera instead of a gun. You just watch. He has softened quite a bit over the past year and a half...since he retired....I'll get him to put that gun down one of these days. :)

Looks like the perfect place to sit and drain your brain and get in tune with nature.

I love old trees, especially oaks. I'm not too good with killing animals but I know the herd has to be thinned for better health and most folks just shoot what they can eat.

I love the new look of you blog! Say hello to John, the kitty and the turtles.
