Did The Cows Wonder?

I don't know the difference in a mushroom and a toad stool but this picture is a cow patty, of this I'm sure. I guess it is a toad stool growing out of it. John was going around the cowpen collecting dried cowpatties, putting them in a feed sack to use as fertilizer for the tomato plants. Is this sanitary? John said the cows probably wonder why he was scooping up thier s---. When we went to the back forty we saw two wild turkeys. One found a place to squeech under the tall fence and the other took  a long run and raised into the air high enough to clear the tall fence and they were gone. As we were doing our chores everytime we passed the farm house we eyed the porch to see if the renter man was out in his Texas Longhorn house coat smoking  like we always see him. How they can get by without working I don't know. John wanted to tell him he was filling the house water resovoir (sp) and then was going to direct the water to the stock tank as the water is getting low there without any rain lately. John teased him that he was in trouble because we both wanted to see him about something. I just wanted to give him a picture I took of their dog back when it was real cold and the dog has his sweater on. I think he was pleased to get the picture.

No cow pies here. But I bet it would be good fertilizer. That's why the mushrooms love it.

I don't know whether they wonder or not, just eat them. I sure don't know the difference. Mel and Dar up north know all that stuff. I wish I did, but I would probably die on the first go round.
YES it is sanitary to use manure on the tomato plants, you know that (isn't it?),
Love the tales of the roads and ranch!

This is a first for me: I've never seen a toad stool emmerging from a cow stool.....

I spelled "emerging" wrong! Sorry!!

Never heard that one before but will have to share it with my mushroom loving friends, lol. I don't particularly care for mushrooms and now I know why! lol

Definatly a cow patty. I stepped in them often enough when was little & barefoot. I never believed they ever dried up.

I don't know if it is sanitary, but I know I've heard of it being done. Dogs in sweaters; I've never had a pet who would allow that sort of thing. ~Mary

Good ol' fertilizer in any size shape or form ~ grow tomatoes GROW! Can't really tell from the pic what kind of mushroom you got there. I think it's a "cow patty kind". Just my unknowing observation:)

lol...you are funny! I laughed out loud when I read your first few lines. We used some organic humus on our flower beds one year and then wondered why it smelled like s--- when we opened the windows...then we read the bag...it was made from cow patties. peeee uuuuu!

But we had the prettiest flowers in the neighborhood for about 5 years straight!!!

sure, now it works...
did you know you can make tea outa those dry cowpies? Drop one in a bucket of water, let it steep and then water your tomatoes...they'll thank you.
As for those mushrooms, I don't eat them without doing a spore count and then I'm still skeptical...sister Mel eats wild schrooms-just those she knows.
