Happy Birthday Barbie

The news station tells me it's your birthday. My goodness I should have known. 54 is it? You've held your age so well and brought joy and fun to so many little girls including my two. Back then our world revolved around you to a point, how could I forget? Mel my girl's Dad built them a Barbie closet. Painted it pink and pasted darker pink flowers on it. Opening the double doors on one side was a full length mirror for you to check your clothes and make sure you were dressed just right for your date with Ken. On the other side was tiny drawers that really pulled out to keep your tiny accessories and at top a pull-out bar on which to hang your "in style" dresses. My sister-in-law sewed a beautiful white wedding gown just in case Ken proposed for each daughter's beloved Barbie. So "happy birthday" Barbie and may you have many more and continue to make little girls have fun playing pretend.

even though she was always a little too perfect (or too good to be true), i loved my old-style barbie (with dramatic eye-liner and blue eyeshadow) and then later my 'new' malibu barbie. :)

I adored Barbie and this brought back many good memories. What a lovely thing Mel did for his girls!

The only doll (well, besides my rag doll) that I ever loved and played with more than once was Barbie...and Midge and Ken and Skipper. Then when my daughter was old enough to want to play with Barbie, she grew to love her the way I did....now my granddaughters are playing with her. It's amazing that she has spanned 3 generations now. I am 57 going on 58, so I'm a little older than Barbie...wish I had the clothes collection and the dream house she has! :) Very neat that your daugthers dad went to so much trouble for his girls. Do they still have it?

I LOVED my Barbie and her best friend Midge. Happy Birthday. That Barbie closet was a sweet thing to do.

We never had daughters to Sherry's dismay, but when that Grand daughter came along, YEP Barbie came to live with us too.
Neat entry Paula. You got some good 'uns.

In answer to Leave It To Davis, yes one of my daughters still has the closet, the doll dressed in her wedding dress, and a Barbie camper. I'm not sure about the other daughter but I know she still has a riding rocky horse Santa brought her. Both girls are in their 50's. Geeze does that make me old?

My oldest sister had a Barbie that she later shared with the rest of us five girls. That was the only Barbie I ever remembered but my twin Doug and I had Jack and Jill dolls. We still have them at our young age of 62. Doesn't that make ME vintage?
BlessYaPaula...I love dropping by here.

My daughter had a Barbie. I made oodles of clothes for her. Strange but she never noticed that some of them were the same material as her clothes.

Oh, so sorry you didn't get any of the rain last night....it looked like it was stretching all the way down to San Antonio....we got 2 inches. Yeah! I'll try to wish some up for you....and if that doesn't work, we'll do lots of praying!

So it was Barbies Birthday.!!! Finally getting some blog reading done. The ankle and leg are doing really good and the cold is better but nasty on top of everything else.

Even militant feminists(of which I am not one)have to admit, the girl has endured. ~Mary

I still have all of Eler Beth's Barbie's. She hasn't wanted to part with them yet. I think she's going to save a few for her daughter if she ever has one and re-home the rest of them.

Just read your comment about eating road runner for boils...and it curing them....well, that is a useful tidbit of information and I'll keep that in mind should I ever get a boil...just don't know how I would ever catch the critter! We ran all the way down the block chasing one last year trying to get a decent picture. lol It was hilarious. Never did catch him that day...but he came back and was in my driveway...got him through the front door. :)
