They're Back

The hummingbirds came back last week. I was ready for them with nectar mixed and in the fridge. We like to think its the same two couples who come each year. Susie our cat is such a good girl. She lays on the garbage can and watches their antics and never tries to catch them and she could but I don't worry because I know she won't. I also saw a few bluebonnet plants in John's back yard. His back yard used to be full of Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrushes until a few years ago he mowed before they went to seed. They are so pretty but when they are done blooming they can make the yard look really ugly. John brought a half barrel home cut sideways full of dirt to plant some tomato plants in so now he has a garden. At one time he raised vegtables to sell along with his peanuts and raising cattle so I guess he had his fill of a real garden that was a field. My Redbud tree is in full bloom. I was beginning to think it wasn't going to bloom at all as the Marmon church redbud tree has been blooming for several weeks. I keep mine trimmed from the bottom so it has a nice shape. Can't take a picture as my neighbors have junk beside their house and their big truck in in the drive-way next to my tree. When I planted it their house wasn't built yet. Miss Daisy looks thinner and doesn't come around to eat much so she must be minding a new family but I don't know where she has them. She wouldn't be above eating a bird but Susie doesn't let her come near the bird feeders. She sleeps by the curb on the grass and watches the yard. Sooo everything is looking springy but we already need rain badly.

I'm pretty sure the same ones return, because when they first show up, if there was a feeder hanging someplace last year and I didn't hang one in that spot, they keep flying over there as if looking for it.

i probably need to get a sugar water feeder up, then!

our red bud looks pitiful. just a few tiny blooms. but the pear tree managed to push out leaves w/o hardly any blooms first! weird spring this year!

What a pleasant read today. Texas coming alive and a cat you can trust! LOL (and one you can't) LOL LOL

I haven't decided about my tomato plants yet, and I have never been a farmer, but I sure like tomatoes!!!
