What To Do?

Oh boy you find yourself in some uncomfortable positions but thank goodness it resolved itself. After tending to the cattle we made our usual round to the back forty and the east property just to see what we could see. We saw what I didn't want to see. A coyote caught in a trap and not dead. Flailing around trying to get loose. It wasn't the snare type and could move around a little and not caught by the neck. The coyotes are not friends of the rancher, hunter, or farmer but you sure don't enjoy seeing them suffer. We don't carry a gun so we left so as not to keep it excited and moving around. On the way out we met the hunter who has permission from the land owner to hunt. Told him of the plight of the coyote and ask if he had a gun with him. We talked a minute about the land being for sale at a high price and how he would loose his hunting rights if it sells and John would have to move his cattle off the acreage. He has a camera  and a feeder. He told us of seeing the exotic deer at the feeder about three weeks ago which is about the time we saw it. He also said there was a  helecopter shining lights on the feeder one night at two in the morning. Humm Mr. Banker is spending a lot to look for his expensive deer. Hunter also said he saw two other much less expensive exotic deer at the feeder. I wanted to ask him how I looked on that camera checking out the snare and the waving red ribbon, but instead I kept my mough shut and just listened. I'm wondering how they got out of that deer proof fence. We parted ways for us to come home and hunter to go take care of the coyote. Coyotes kill a lot of animals they shouldn't but this one won't be able to.

I was surprised at the size of some Coyotes out there. I pictured them about the size of a fox until I saw one that stood about 3 ft. high at it's back.
Glad it was taken care of, but I am disappointed you cowboys don't carry a six shooter!!! LOL

Always something different. So now you know there is a camera there you can pose better!!!!

This is why I could never be a rancher. I'm a city sissy at heart. I would have been crying for the coyote......

I think if I had to get out and about on a ranch I would need a gun, but I couldn't kill the coyote. I hope he didn't suffer to long.

I'm sad for the coyote. I watched someone put down a hurt deer and my heart bleeds for animals out there.

I love listening to the coyotes here but they scare me. We just watched The Grey last night and that was really scary!

On some of the land where Thomas hunts, he has permission to (and is begged to) kill all the coyotes he sees. But Eler Beth won't do it. She knows that they are rivals for the deer that she hunts, but she says that unless one is threatening her, she couldn't shoot it. After all, when they are killing the deer, they are only doing what their instinct says to do to survive. But if it was a matter of coyotes killing livestock or pets, then she'd be able to kill it.

Hi. Saw your comment on my blog and had to come check your blog out. And here you are talking about coytotes, and here in our parts of the woods, my hubby has been known around here as "the coyote hunter". Yeah, I know. I have been married to him for 40 years this year, and I still hate for him to shoot ANYTHING, but he tells me the farmers beg him to come and kill those pesky rascals because they kill their calves and their chickens and their sheep and their goats....I always, always feel so sorry for them because they mate for life. But, where I have made huge strides getting him to stop hunting deer, he just has it in his blood to shoot those coyotes. Now, he will NOT trap them. Just for the reason you pointed out....it's inhumane. Shooting is humane? Yes, because they don't suffer. And Hubby calls them up so it's a challenge...and some get away for Hubby to call another day. It's just too bad they can't be taught to just eat the mice and leave the bigger meat alone. Teach them to just hunt on land that doesn't belong to farmers. Sad we can't communicate with animals like that, isn't it?

I think the ranches where they put the exotic animals out for the rich people to come "hunt" in helicopters should be outlawed myself. I know there is big money in it, but what kind of chance does the animal have? They are fenced in. Sad money can buy inhumane treatment of animals.

Thanks for visiting my blog, fellow Texan. It's nice to meet you.
