Sadness In The Country

Yes there is sadness all over the country and I pray for the people but we have a sadness at the ranch right now too. I couldn't go to the ranch with John yesterday so he told me of this happening when we both got home. One of his cows had a deformed calf. It has an unusually big head. He thinks it is able to eat so he will wait a while so see how it develops. He thinks the cow may have been kicked when she was pregnant to make this happen. Once before this happened and the calf's head was so large it wasn't able to nurse so it had to be destroyed. One of the sad things that is bound to happen when you own a herd of cattle. Years ago there was one born with no hair. It lived a couple of days and was probably premature. On the bright side there are a lot of healthy calves running and jumping and exploring their new world.

That is to bad about the calf. I remember vaguely since I was young of incidents with our little herd of milk cows would happen Most of it was not talked about in front of me since even at an early age I was a big animal lover, EXCEPT BULLS. I do remember when they got out and got into some kind of grain field and cows were laying all over. They saved some but lost some.

Sorry to hear about the calf. I know how you feel about animals you take them all under your wing. I hope this one lives to fight another day, and develops normally.

I love to see the calves jump and run. When they are small they act a lot like goats. ahhahaha
